Hi Doc. Can you do a live nasal exam at the meeting?  Good Sleep,Chris

Hi Doc, Can you look at mike c at the beaches posts ? is their a fix for him? Good Sleep,Chris

Chris -- would you mind quickly summarizing the question about Mike C?  I don't want to ask the Dr. to go through a lengthy post.

This is from Mikes post about alternative methods to help curb osa other than pap.It gives a basic over view of his maladies. Good Sleep,Chris

Doctors have ordered me OFF PAP due to hearing loss caused by the pressure so looking at alternative therapies I have to self invent! I am wondering if combining Russ MacMillans snoring strap (less claustrophobic) along with a modified Rematee device my wife and I designed may combine to keep my AHI number down to stop my heart damage? PLEASE let me know your thoughts? I am only guessing that if I stop the snoring I may also stop some of the apneas? I simply can NOT accept that I have been literally left to twist in the wind so to speak by 7 Doctors now who have NO ideas on how I can stop the damage to my heart already caused by OSA! But here I am, and still struggling to find an alternative that may at least help me to some degree without all the middle ear problems my APAP & prior CPAP gave me. I still wonder if I had never had that sinus surgery a year prior to beginning PAP, maybe I never would have had all these issues with PAP? I can only guess again, that the fixing of a deviated septum, combined with partial turbinate reduction is why I am unable to tolerate even my setting of 7-12 pressure....I have NO answers but keep looking & hoping I can stumble upon some form of self help since medicine apparently is il equipped to do so....

If anyone knows any answers, please let ME know? I am just wondering that if I am made to stop snoring, maybe that would also cut back on the apneas? Probably not since that would just be too simple?

from a member:

Are there any imminent new treatments for sleep apnea?

If one has a deviated septum, which causes mouth breathing, dry mouth and less effective CPAP, is surgery recommended?

When is BIPAP preferable to CPAP?

Insurance only pays for a new machine every 5 years and, inevitably, advances occur. Are their exceptions to getting payment for a more advanced machine?

Thanks to Dr. Stern and Mike for this wonderful source of information on such a complex issue.

Another user question ...

Here's my question:

Is there a relationship between sleep disorders and PTSD or chronic fatigue/exhaustion?

Looking forward to the event.

Mike C, has an ASV machine been considered?

FWIW, many of us xpap patients have had deviated septum and turbinate reduction without your problems. I would look to the tubes. So sorry you're going through this.

Is the "mouth guard" dental object effective?  I read it causes teeth problems.  I use a CPAP but when traveling or an unexpected sleep over occurs I would like an alternative.  I also was informed that surgery to aid in sleeping is only 60% effective.

Also, can you recommend a good sleep testing place?  I had a very bad experience with Dr. Sharma, in Long Island.

How do I get rid of water lingering in my ear?  Usually I poor alcohol in my ear after swimming, but I forgot one day and now hear it "slosh" and is uncomfortable when I swim.  It does not hurt when not swimming, and I do not believe it is infected.  I have been putting alcohol in the ear to encourage evapoartion.

I understand this is not exactly related to spleep apnea, but you are an ear doctor and swimming laps assists in my health and fitness, which improves my sleeping.

Thanks, Anna Miller

Do Masks and machine plastic parts contain BPH ??? Like water bottles "used to" Have you seen reactions from the plastics used in pap equipment??  Good Sleep,Chris

Can you show us how a ph meter works?? and what the sensors you use for inside look like? easy to use/tolerate ??  Good Sleep,Chris

I'm puzzled. Why do we sleep apnea folks need to use a pH meter? Isn't that for testing acidity or alkalinity in things?
