"This too shall pass." I've been hearing that a lot lately about the adjustment I'm making to parenthood -- having an infant is tough work, and it's a true learning curve to be able to feel confident and good about what you're doing. Somebody asked me whether adjusting to being a dad or adjusting to CPAP is tougher, and I immediately said adjusting to being a dad. The sleepless nights and the crying spells are intense. Of course, the payoff is huge and i am so much better off with a child than without one, so much so that I can no longer imagine my life without this precious gift I've been given -- and it's only been a month. Anyway, I think there is a true analogy to make here with CPAP that all you parents and grandparents can understand well. CPAP is a tough adjustment to make -- fitting it into your routine, being able to feel confident that you're using it properly, etc. But the payoff, like parenthood, is ENORMOUS. It literally is a life-saver. You will live longer with it than you would without it.
My hope is that by drawing this connection, that some people who think they can't, will rethink things and know that they can. If you can be a mom/dad, you have it within yourself to adjust to CPAP, no matter what difficulties you're having.
