My mother keeps on asking me when I'm going to start helping around the house. I commute to work everyday. It takes me 30 minutes to get to work and 30 minutes to get home. I come home I put my stuff down and I just lay on the couch. My mom then asked if I could make dinner, prepare the rice in the rice cooker. I just want to go to my room and close the door. I told her that I'm sorry, but I just don't have the energy. I'm frustrated because I'm taking medication to keep me awake at work, which is working, but I lack the energy to even think about doing anything when I come home from work. She believes that it could be my propanolol that is causing me to be fatigued. Everytime I use the cuff to take my blood pressure it's really low. I'm just running on empty.

Are you always tired Victoria? Describe what is going on maybe we can figure it out. Is there a certain time of the day that you are tired? How easy is it for you to fall asleep? Are you sleeping well at night? Are you on Propanolol for hypertension or headaches?
That is great Ronald.

I was a very active person riding my bicycle long distance and I loved down hill skiing. In the early 90's I hit a brick wall and felt much like you described. I had many medical tests and it was determined that I suffered from depression. I went on anti-depression meds. and they helped a little. After 12 years of suffering I was finally tested for sleep apnea. I had never heard about it before. I was shocked when I was told that I had a severe case of this. I got my machine and within two days I knew I had found the answer. I regained my energy and am now back participating in all the activities from the past. I also have traveled around the world with my CPAP including a month in China. This has been a miracle in my life. I still take my anti-depression meds but feel so much better. I am 63 years old and am preparing for a 5 day bicycle ride from Lansing Mi. to the Upper Penisula about 365 miles. I hope this encourages you. Yours truly, Ron Marklin
I just woke up and I can't seem to stop yawning. I went to bed about 12:30am and woke up about 7:15am. I average about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night. I don't take my Nuvigil until I am at work. I realized on Saturday that if I take this medication on an empty stomach the medication is stronger and more intense. Everyday, I wake up, get ready for work, drive to work and get something to eat. Then I carry on with the rest of the day. I'm feeling very energetic during the day; but when I was taking provigil, I noticed when it was wearing off that I was feeling sleepy all kinds. And then my head was hurting a little and burning in the forehead area. I also take some supplements, Omega 3-6-9, iron, Super B-Complex and a baby aspirin. I'm not feeling drowsy as some medications make you feel, I just lack the energy. Maybe I have a metabolic disorder. When I get home about 5 or 6pm is when I don't want to do anything. Yesterday, I was stressed out at work and got emotionally worked up and cried, even crying takes my energy. I felt so drained yesterday. My eyes do feel a little heavy right now...I could go back to sleep. The last time I took my Blood Pressure it read 105/50. Is that pretty normal?

If you typically are only getting 5 to 6 hours of sleep at night -- no wonder you are tired!!!! You need around 8 hours of sleep to feel rested. I suggest that you sleep more at night -- which shouldn't be a problem if you are tired and sleepy anyway. You probably have a high sleep debt that has incurred with the lack of sleep, topped with the sleep apnea, you may find yourself needing more sleep, instead of less sleep.

I would try to go to bed earlier in the evening, practice good sleep hygiene, and have a good physical to rule out any medical problems.
I agree with Carol. If you are only getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night you are adding 2-3 hours of sleep debt to yourself each night. If you did this for a week your body would feel like it had been up for 24 hours. I suggest that this weekend you sleep as long as your body will allow. On Sunday try to go to bed a little earlier and establish a better sleep schedule during the week. 7-8 hours a night would be good.
