Hello all. Just wanted to say that I go in for my new sleep study Tuesday night. I'm nervous about it. I'm afraid they won't find anything wrong and I'll still be dealing with the issues of being sleepy and irritable and forgetful, etc. I got better to begin with on therapy but have been going down hill since. I'm 100% compliant. I'm convinced that I don't have any large leaks but I don't really know since I have a Resmed Vpap III which I believe is compliance only data. My pressure is 18/14. I don't find my exact machine listed on past discussions on fully compliant machines.

I know this has been posted before but what exactly should I ask the sleep techs or should I leave all my questions to the sleep doctor when I see him in 2 weeks? I want to have a fully data capable machine and be involved in my therapy. No more dragging my feet! I don't know if they will give me a new machine after only 2 years.

if you and the sleep team prove that daytime somnolence is still prevalent you should be able to get a new machine out of it. paying for a new machine is still cheaper than some of the alternatives. Explain your wants and needs to the sleep staff. If it is in their power they should help you. I would. It all boils down to the burden of proof with the insurance companies.
Don't be nervous about your sleep study. My grandson says it is just a sleep over at someone else's place. The sleep study people told me very little. But I got a detailed report from the medical centre in the capital city.
Yoru sleep tech is quite knowledgable so ask questions about how to use the machine at home. You may be overlooking something. Do not ask about results as the tech is not a doctor and really can not give you any information.
If your machine is only 2 years old and is working properly then most likely they will not replace the machine. It is usually a 5 year minimum unless the machine is malfunctioning.
You might want to try a different mask in case it is a leak problem or a mouth breathing problem.
This will be my 3rd study actually the first one I could not tolerate cpap with nasal mask. Funny that on the report it says I did but they could not titrate. The second was for titration on the bipap which was tolerated but apparently at the pressure I needed it created PLM at 25 an hour with 2 arousals. The pressure that created the PLM? The first 2 were 2 years ago.

I was at Kaiser Hospital today for another appointment and went to the records department to get ALL the papers that pertain to my past studies and the records department only had the written stuff I've gotten before. No graphs or anything. How can a sleep doctor from Kaiser help me if he can't see the graphs? I noticed on the paperwork I got today that it recommends that I have a diagnostic screening for iron deficiency, renal dysfunction and peripheral neuropathy. I haven't had any of those!

I know I can't ask the techs for results but would they give me a copy of the graphs from the last time? Do they keep those? Wonder why my hospital doesn't have them.

I've tried all the masks that are available through my insurance. I have the Mirage Quattro full face mask and it works very well and I really don't think there is a leak problem. I'm pretty sure my brain at this point has been trained to keep my mouth shut too. But I'll tell you one thing, I'm not going to keep my mouth shut anymore about getting what I need to feel better! I'm going to be the noisy squeeky wheel!
