I started cpap 6 months ago and have had great improvement. My doctor said I was very compliant. I started with a full face the resmed mirage quattro and believe because I was not fitted I could not use it so I returned it.
I got a resmed mirage activa lt which was fitted too large and with the help of all of the people here learned that they made a small and I went in to my DME and got the small. Then I decided I would like to try the nasal pillow, which I tried and decided that my nasal passages were just too dry even with using the saline. Sometimes it seems I felt the pressure in my teeth.

I have started back on the nasal and to make a long story shorter.......I feel I need to go back to a full face mask. I was told last month if I called today that I would be able to get one through my insurance. I call today and talk to a resp tech and he tells me that is not true....insurance would not pay for it. I would have to pay out of pocket or he could but one together with parts he has.

I am very upset with this DME and their techs.......this is my health and I feel if they have not taken the time to properly fit me ( basically I have been fitting myself) you would think they would be a little more helpful.

What can I do from here anyone with suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately your story is familiar to many of us.

There are some very good DME's and RT's out there. Unfortunately many are not.

I would contact your insurance company and find out which DME's are in network. Hopefully you will have a choice of more than one. While on the phone ask about their schedule of replacement parts/masks/etc. With as many policies there are it maybe difficult for the people at the DME's to keep track of what is covered under certain plans (giving them the benefit of the doubt). If you have more than one DME you can use, you should be able to get your supplies through them. It your machine is on rental, you are probably stuck using the current DME for it.

Typically insurance will replace the mask every three months -- BUT many won't cover the headgear every six months. DME's typically will not sell just the mask without the headgear so that means a new mask every 6 months vs every 3 months due to the headgear.

I would check on-line as the prices on line are so much cheaper when it comes to masks, seals, hoses, filters, etc. I have gotten where I don't fool with the insurance for those items since it is such a hassle. I have used www.cpap.com for supplies and find them reliable. Also Mike has some items available at www.apnealife.com.
unfortunatly you should have had the name of the person who advised you and used that as leverage
its a money game to them and nothing to do with your health
it is a regular occourance with thier lies but that is the harsh reallity and they are playing russian rullette with your life
