When I went for my yearly CPAP checkup I was eligible for new equipment. I had been using ResMed Swift nasal pillows system with success. The sleep people brought me a new product to try....ResMed Swift LT for Her nasal pillows system.

I must say that it is far superior to the old gear. It fits on my face more snuggly and the whole pillow set up is softer and curved better to fit my face. I guess it is customized for women in that it is narrow on the bridge under the nose.

I had no idea that there was sex-specific equipment on the market. When you guys are replacing equipment I think it is worthy to ask about men's vs women's gear. Also I had waited for my year appt to replace gear, rather than pursuing it at the six months time. This stuff fit so much better and sealed so much more cleanly on my face, I think partly just because it is new. I marked on my calender to call and order new stuff at the six month interval rather than waiting a whole year this time.

Well this new stuff fits more snuggly than the old stuff, stays on my face better and is just way better over all than my old stuff. Is there any cost difference for the gear made for men vs the gear made for women? If it is the same cost I don't get what you mean about "marketing genius".

My understanding is that the LT for her is the exact same as the regular LT in all respects except the color and the selection of pillow sizes that comes with it. I think the LT comes with small, medium, and large pillows; whereas the LT for her comes with extra-small, small, and medium--or something like that. So if a lady uses small or medium pillows, the regular LT will work fine for her, if she doesn't mind the darker color blue of the headgear. I will not say that the LT for her is pure marketing genius, but it comes close.
i'm very happy to hear that you've upgraded masks. i find that as a general rule, technology with sleep apnea kind of changes like most technology -- very quickly. so you want to have the latest/greatest "stuff" because it's going to, generally, represent quite an improvement over the old stuff.

my wife has the LT for Her too and can't imagine using anything else.
I think the LT for her is more than marketing hype. without the extra small nasal pillows option which comes with the LT for her, and with no other ResMed mask, my wife would probably have refused to use CPAP treatment because she has extra small nares. I applaud ResMed for being one of the only players in the industry to recognize the vastly underserved female market, and target it directly. it's good business. and it's good for women. and although i'm a newlywed, i know by now that what's good for her, is good for him. so thanks ResMed. everyone's happy!

There one other difference between the LT and the LT for Her. The "Her" model also includes matching powder blue "booties" that can attach to the headgear so that it is less likely to leave marks on one's face. I think they stole the idea from the Pad-a-Cheek people.

I see a difference between marketing to women and designing products that take women into account. The Respironics OptiLife comes packaged with four different sizes of nasal pillows, from Petite through Large. Some women have nares that are large, so I tend to agree with j_n_k that it seems like marketing genius.
Hi jnk. If Maidenform came up with a male bra and found a way to successfully get guys to buy that...now that I would consider marketing genius!

Nice to meet you! Glad you like ResMed too.

I didn't mean to sound insulting to ResMed with my marketing statement. I admire good marketing. And, for full disclosure, I use a ResMed blower and use exclusively ResMed masks myself. My mask of choice is the LT most nights. I think it is the best mask I've ever tried, for my needs. I consider both versions to represent a major leap forward in mask technology.

And I think the LT for Her is a step in the right direction, as far as taking the needs of women into consideration. But it is only a baby step, from my view. And it seems to me it is overhyped in the marketplace as if it were a completely re-engineered product designed specifically for a woman, when it doesn't seem to me that is quite the case, other than in a few details. So part of me finds the way it is marketed to be a tad deceptive and patronizing to women, or at least misleading on some levels. It was a nice gesture that the company seems to be giving itself way too much credit for. However, I do give them credit for not charging more for it.

And maybe I'm just being an overly sensitive male in my reaction to it. :-)
