Today I was having really bad back spasms to the point where I couldn't walk. I've had back pain in the past but just recently (5-6 months ago) I got off of the Hydrocodone I was on. My back has flare ups every now and then and I've taken the Hydrocodone that I have left over. I know that tonight I'm going to sleep like crap. Seems like every time I take the pain pill I wake up with a horrible headache and exhausted. I've been held up on the couch using an ice pack, then the massager, my mom even massaged me but I'm still in pain. I feel so horrible. I have two kids 3 and 2 and was completely debilitated when the spasms started. I couldn't get to my 2 year old to get him out of his crib, and I relied on my 3 year old to bring me things. Thank god for my mom she came over and fed them dinner and watched them until my husband got home. I feel so useless and I hate relying on people to do things for me. My body is slowly becoming my enemy :(

what are you o2 desats

was you wearing your cpap

I have a similiar problem with chronic back pain which radiates down my legs.  I take some heavy narcotics or I would never sleep or function during the day.  I'm sure you are using your CPAP, but as 99 suggested you may have O2 desats because of the hyrocodone.  That would cause a morning headache.  Or the hydrocodone itself might cause the headache.  You can buy an inexpensive oximeter- can't make recommendations I don't use one- and see if O2 desats are a problem.

I go to a pain management center where they give an injection of steroids in my back- L1 & L2- which gives me great relief for a while.

Good luck, it's a real problem.  Back pain like that is certainly disabling.

Have you tried a TENs unit?

How is your diet?

I'm not sure what my O2 desats are. My mom brought over her tense machine I wore it for 90minutes and it didn't really touch the pain. I'm going to try it again today and try to position it differently. My diet isn't the best. I've been trying to make little tweaks here and there because me and food have a love hate relationship lol. I've started to incorporate Chia Seed and Flax Seed into my diet.

good start

from little acorns come massive oak trees

Anna, TENS wasn't practical for me since it only helps while you wear it.  Electrode placement is very important.  I would just try to be judicious with my use of the narcotics, but take them when you need them.  I found something topical that really does work- Biofreeze- you might try that.

Thank you 99. I hear you on the TENS machine. I was surfing the internet and found that the spasms could be helped by a magnesium/potassium supplement. I went to the health store and got some and my back actually stopped hurting. I need to make an appointment with my primary and see if he can give me some muscle relaxers for the next time I have a flare up.

thank you for your compliment i was undeserving. no i am not on a tens machine
