So I went to the doctor's yesterday to find out the results of my MSLT. My results were abnormal. Though I do not meet the "criteria" for narcolepsy, I do have some of the criteria. I fell asleep during every nappy time, one time within 6 minutes.....thats fast, dontcha think? but I've always said, I can sleep anywhere. Anyway, the doctor explained that due to my....eehhhh.....somewhat......ummmmm.......
mild? aggitation during the test, my results in reality are probably even worse then what they show, since aggitation tends to give people get-up and go. Final Diagnosis: Hypersomnia. They are suggesting that I try Adderall. I'm gonna give it a whirl, even though I hate taking pills unless it gives me immediate results. I've been reading about Adderall, I hope I dont start talking to walls and seeing midgets, rainbows and flowers everywhere. Physchodelic maaaan!

Provigil is also a common one for Idiopathic Hypersomnia (with jargon goggles on you can see that means = I don't know why she's so sleepy...but she is)

I have a coworker on it for narcolepsy and they are madly in love with their pills. Good news or bad news, you won't be seeing penguins in your living room....i.e. the enchanted forest. Sorry, no phychodelic side effects reported.

REM during any of the naps?

Saz

p.s. It's okay to talk to walls if they talk to you first. That's how you know you're not crazy...from what I hear.
Saz! Waaaaassssup! I did try Provigil once, but it gave me really bad headaches. Guess that's why they suggested Adderall. I'm already madly in love with my cpap, as you very well know, so OMG, I cant imagine being in love with adderall at the same time! That may rocket me into pure euphoria!!! But then the jealousy will probably set in, cpap will be nagging.....you love adderall more then me. Adderall will start complaining your always with cpap at night and with me only in the morning.......things could get really ugly. LOL

No REM reported. I do have sleep paralysis....ABSOLUTELY hate when it happens.....scares me to death, its horrible! And I do have cataplexy. It's amazing how many "big girl" words I've learned since being diagnosed with sleep apnea.

Though I joke about this stuff, I guess its my way of dealing with the feelings that creep up on me of being a complete failure as a human being. The list of things wrong with me seems to keep growing and growing and growing......

p.s. Oh if my walls could talk!! LOL
When I feel like a failure as a human being I call up my parents. That's what they're for. They provided my substandard DNA, so they get to deal with the consequences. How's that for no accountability on my part? ;^)

I think you need to talk to CPAP and let her know that she really has quite a bit in common with Adderall. Maybe they could have a potluck and share their favorite recipes while sipping wine coolers. Let them know you love them both equally (but knowing in your head you really love Adderall the best).

Stupid question. Did you have the Provigil trial prior to starting CPAP or while using CPAP?

Good to keep a sense of humor about it all. I've had 3 surgeries in the past 2 years for orthopedic problems. Now it looks like I'll have to have another soon because I dislocated my fibula in a freak basketball accident. Who the hell pops out their fibula? The head is sticking out like an Alien is about the pop out like a Jack In The Box.

Then my caring doctor pointed out my collapsed disc and spondylolisthesis and said that if I were a horse he'd ship me to Elmers. I imagined myself doing horrible things to him and it made me feel better.

I like the "blaming it on ma and pa" idea. That works for me! Uhhhhh Saz, get your mind out of the gutter, my cpap isnt a she.......its a HE!! LMAO! No recipes and wine coolers.....were talking shots of whiskey, 5 o'clock shadow, smokin a biggen, and lots of crotch rearranging......! LOL

No, I tried the provigil before I met the love of my life.

Fibula? Isnt that a female only part????.....lol. Blaaaaaaaaaahk, I just got a visual of the popping out part.......gross!!! I have a very weak gag reflex........just the thought of that popping out like an alien rearing its ugly head is making me seriously gag!!! Freak basketball accident.....come on homey, you know white men cant jump! You were trying to pull a LeBron move, werent you!!! Come on, admit it.

Your spondyofniofniofneiowanfiodakfjklfnklj???? What the heck is that????

Lala, I have two grandsons who take Adderall. Neither one talks to walls, nor do they see midgets. The older one, however, does see rainbows and flowers everywhere. But then he's been doing that since he was about 2 years old!!!! He's the kid on the baseball field who's out in right field picking dandelions, singing, and talking to his friends while the ball's in play!!!!

You'll be okay.

my cpap isnt a she.......its a HE!! LMAO!

Lala what kind of therapy did you get?

So your hypersleepy huh? they just put my daughter on the adderall. that is truly an amazing drug. She takes it Monday through Friday for school. 100% effective. The only side effects I have seen are the headaches I get from arguing with her on Saturday when she is not on it.
Rock,
I started the Adderall this past Saturday and all I can say is WOW!! I was an uncontrollable cleaning machine starting at 7:30 a.m.. I scrubbed EVERYTHING, baseboards, walls, closet doors, ceilings, countertops, the stove, the floors, cupboards, windows inside and out, ceiling fans, washer and dryer, dusted, vacuumed, washed clothes, towels, sheets. I did not stop until 6:30 p.m. It was krazy!! And my pupils were like big black saucers. Sunday, I was not quite as bad, no pupil dialation and could relax a little, mostly because my arms, legs and hands were sore as hell. Today, I'm at work, feelin a little weird, but alot alert.

What do you mean therapy? Should I be having therapy with this drug?

What I'm confused about is if Adderall is for ADHD, and prescribed for kids that are hyper, why would it give me energy? I mean, I dont get that. If its supposed to calm kids down, why does it hype me up?

Lala, there are a # of medications that work one way for children and exactly the opposite for adults. Adderall is one of them, Ritalin is another. and there are quite a few. Two of my grandsons are ADD and ADHD respectively--both take Adderall and have for several years--Rock's right--once the dosage is established, it's a miracle drug for people of any age who need that part of their brain balanced out. Not uncommon at all. I'm happy for you!!!!

LOL re: days with kids off their Rx--we went through the exact same thing with both my grandsons--weekends were, well let me just say, a trial!!! Both of our kids have gotten better as they've gotten older. Still need Rx for school, one of them also for work, but they do well on weekends now. Keep the faith!!! I'm glad you discovered what she needs.
