am new to cpap and have tried many many masks. so far, the opti-life and now, the Liberty are the two that work.  Although I breathe thru my mouth when I fall asleep since air fills it up and poofs it open. Tried the taping the  mouth, chin strap and the like and then ended up trying the Liberty. I worked for several nites, but now my mouth just falls open from the air filling and wakes me up with terrible dry mouth and throat. And I find adjusting the Liberty to be difficult. I think I have it right, then about 5 seconds later, a leak materializes. I adjust again, and then another. I may not be putting the straps in the right place or they do become too tight- I did  notice that on many occasions...last  night I gave up and took the whole thing off. Today I am tired, lazy and feel awful. Anyone have any ideas on the best way to adjust these masks (liberty) and also, the best pillow for a back sleeper? I think that may play into this.

Glad you found a mask that works for you. I'm not familiar with the opti-life. and my sleep doctor nixed the liberty after I had tried it one night. He said the nasal prongs would leak at my IPAP of 22. So I wish I could give you advice on the liberty, but I don't know from personal experience. I've just heard it takes some getting used to and being sure you are using the right size prongs. I sometimes sleep on my back and just use a regular pillow. I have tried the buckwheat hull pillow, but prefer my regular, rather flat pillow for back or side sleeping. Keep working with that Liberty, I'm sure it just takes some practice to get all the adjustments right. I've heard that when all goes well, it's a wonderful mask. There are other full face masks you might find more easily adjusted. The quattro by ResMed was always my favorite until I switched to the FItLife, and Respironics has some popular FF masks out there.
I also tried the liberty and at a pressure of 17 I could never get it to settle down either. Hope that helps. The FF medium quattro is the only that I have found that I can get cranked down enough to work.
You might try a chin-strap for the open mouth. They cost about 25.00 dollars a piece so you might try the pantyhose trick which I have read about before but never used. It would save you the 25 dollars if it does not work. You might also try some of the Macks Silicone ear plugs. You just take one of the plugs and roll it out into a little line and place it on the seal and it makes a seal. I used that for a while.

Thanks Joe, for the reply. My pressure is an 8. My problem seems to be it loosens around the lower part of my chin. At times, I just tighten it too much. Now last night was pretty successful. I feel better today but the air blows my mouth open and the dry mouth and throat is horrible. Well, that will just be a part of this I think! I can't tolerate a fullface mask. Have tried many of them and it just is too much-they are heavy and overwhelming. And I think any of them would force my mouth open because it seems to want to fill up with air and then open...
