I just got back from my physician for my follow-up appointment for my sleep study. I have been on the CPAP for almost a month now, and have noticed a huge difference. For instance sometime in the middle of the night I took my mask off and this morning I woke up with a migrane. That was the main reason for me having the sleep study done was that I was waking up with them every morning. Back to my question. I didn't get all the numbers, but he did tell me that I stopped breathing 3 times and when that happened my oxygen dropped considerably, also when I had my study done the tech said that I had some obstruction. I'm still trying to learn what all this stuff means. I really didn't get a good explanation today because the doctor was more concered with my blood work results (My sugar and cholesterol were both elevated)
I will be calling the office after lunch hour to see if I can pick a copy up when I take my data card to my DME on Friday. When I have the results in hand I was wondering if I posted them here that I would be able to have someone help deciper them...

Hi Christine:

If you post your results here, you'll get all manner of feedback.

I'm gonna speculate that your headaches may not be true migraines but those familiar to some of us as associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Fewer than OSA sufferers have those morning headaches. I'm one of 'em, & it sounds like you may be also. If your headaches are related to OSA, your life is about to get a whole lot better. As you make friends with your PAP system & have consistently good sleep & wake up without that painful headache, you will become devoted to PAP! Hang in there as you develop the skills & habits that will make using PAP as easy as any other habitual routine.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the info you get on Friday.

THank-You Rock...
I will actually have my results in hand this evening :o)
The doctor is faxing them to my Fiancee's office today. As soon as I get them I will be sure to post.
As far as the headaches, I think you are right. Once I am up and moving around and have been awake for 15-30 minutes the headache goes away on its own. No need to take anything for it. My previous doctor was treating me for migranes and not trying to figure out what may be causing my morning headaches.
I do have to say that my PAP has become my new best friend, though I really wish that my new mask would come in. I took the suggestion about using the moleskin, and it has helped keep my skin from being sore. Now it just feels like I took a tiny bump on the head. I sure beats the alternative of not waking up in the morning though...

Gooooooood attititude, Christine!!! You and CPAP are going to do well and get along famously once the pesky mask situation is striaghtened out. Good luck on that one, may you find a quick resolution. These doggone masks are so individualistic.
Wouldn't you like to be the one who develops the mask that literally fits itself to each patient's facial nooks & crannies, thereby eliminating all the struggle we see folks endure? I certainly would!

Oh, m'gawd, Rock Connor!!! If wishes were horses, eh?? Wouldn't that be so perfect if it could ever be done???
That would be perfect to have a mask that molded to the individual face. Hmmm..why can't they do that? Those masks are made from silicone and plastic aren't they? Plastic can be molded right? I don't know about silicone though. I imagine that it can be. I guess having to keep trying new masks is a way to keep the DMEs and the insurance companies in business. ~sigh~
Hi Christine--you've gotten me thinking now about WHY they can't make a more moldable mask.....Lord knows there are a lot of products of other kinds that can self-adjust.....I've been on here, maybe 3 months or so, and I can't even tell you how many of the concerns people bring to the table are related to mask leakage or poor fit resulting in skin breakdown. Someone could sure make both a huge contribution to sleep medicine, to say nothing of the attendant boatload of $$ for the patent!! Since you brought this up, I find it odd that it hasn't been done by now.....anybody know a good plastics engineer? I'm up for making a boatload!!! There HAS to be a way to make this happen.....

I agree with Rock C., you have a terrific "can-and-will-do attitude that will serve you well as you get settled into treatment. Stick around, girl--we NEED people like you!!
