sounds like you have the wrong mask, and no humidifier. I just guessing because of what you stated. Tell me more.
I agree with Duane that you probably don't have adequate humidification, thus causing your tongue to dry and crack, headaches and nose bleeds. A humidifier at one point, was not typically given to cpap users. I know my daughter-in-laws father was not given one when he first started many moons ago, they may not have even had them at this point. I don't use a humidifier in the spring and summer, only turning it on when the heat has to be on constantly in the late fall. Then I use it in pass over mode. Last fall, I tried not using it and found that with the dry indoor air it caused me problems very similar to yours (although my tongue never did dry out to the point of cracking).

There are newer updated machines and new masks out there. You should qualify for a new machine if yours is over 5 years old. I would make sure to check with your insurance carrier to see what DME's they are contracted with. Your primary care doctor could write you a script for an auto machine, set the pressure somewhere in the range of your old pressure with some variances to allow you to find a pressure that is right for you. These machines provide useful data that the doctor can use to find areas of concern and to help you (or we can) to make adjustments in your therapy according to that tdata.
Yup, yup, what Duane McDade said, we need more info to be able to offer much help.

And, yup, yup, to what SleepyCarol said as well. When I was given a loaner APAP for 3 weeks to better titrate my pressure needs no humidifier was provided. By the 3rd night I had to give up using it. The inside of my nose was raw, the APAP air blowing in my nose was like pouring salt on a raw open wound!!! I can't even use just the passover mode a good share of the year as it also irriates my nasal passages AND as I get into the night I wake up COLD all over! Ayr Saline Nasal Gel worked wonders to heal my nasal passages quickly. NEVER use a petroleum based product (such as Vaseline) IN your nasal passages.
Duane i have a respitronics with a mirage full face mask, the original nose style mask was after 4 tests not effective and so the doctor issued the mirage but after the first night using the mirage i was still snoring so the doctor bumped the pressure up to 14 lbs and all that did was further my discomfort .i was told the doctor i was using was the best in the area but after all of the tests i just stopped seeing him and quit using the cpap.im just tired of being a guinea pig i asked if i could have the back of my throat zapped with the lazer but he just ignored me

I hate to say it, but at some point you just have to deal with the therapy. For 5 years you have had a diagnosed problem. Would you have let your heart go for 5 years without fixing it somehow? Sometimes you have to be willing to compromise to get back to being healthy.

David, I agree with Rock. Sometimes it's very hard to adjust to therapy but you have to do it if you want to live. I had a very hard time adjusting to it at a pressure of 18/14 with many of the things you described plus my tongue glued to my teeth and my cheeks puffing out like a chipmunk. I went through a period that I had severe back spasms too, it was awful! I pushed through for myself, my husband, my children, heck even my pets! It will get easier for you. Find a way to do this. Nowadays I can't sleep without my machine and I used to think there was no way in the world that was even remotely possible. People have survived things much worse than this. Good Luck to you!
I see you're point it makes sense i will look for another doctor and try again

Good for you David!
Your willingness to throw yourself back into the fray and attack the problem shows me that you are going to become one of the success stories. We'll help you along the way in any way we can.
