Just a heads up for anyone not yet keeping a spare mask around and/or in service. I hope this prompts you to do so.

While I will plead guilty to being somewhat clumsy and accident prone, I never expected the mishap that I encountered Thursday morning. When I pulled on the hose to detach it from the Quatro mask, the plastic connector - complete with anti-asphyxia valve, came out instead! Isn't it amazing how everything breaks down on weekends, especially long weekends (think drain stoppages, water heaters, etc.).

While I had no trouble ordering the replacement part on-line, if I hadn't acted on the theory that two masks would last a bit longer than twice the life of one (extrapolating from my experience with running shoes), I would have endured either close to a week of non-compliance or a lot of expense and disruption.

my friend went to the doctors complaining of a bad leg
true story but it will make you laugh
the doctor said tom it is your age you are getting on a bit and you can expect things like that
tom replied it cannot be my age because my other leg is the same age as that leg and there is nothing wrong with that leg

yes two is better than one
I spare mask can come in real handy. I also keep a new spare mask in the suitcase that I usually check when I fly; it is available as a spare while at home and when I am traveling..

I have a drawer full of used masks and I rotate through some of them. It is a 15 year collection and I need to toss out several several old masks that I don't like to use any more.
Oh thank you for the reminder-- I have been meaning to do this and just haven't gotten around to it.

Will take care of this first thing in the morning!

Thanks
Jan

ps. If I am not looking for insurance coverage, do the online cpap providers require a prescription to get a mask from them?
With limited exception (I have purchased without one from a "gray market" vendor), they do require a prescription.

Hi Clueless in Redshores :-)

THANKS for the reminder. I just ordered an extra mask plus extra nose pillows (Swift ll for her) and an extra hose. I am surprised I haven't broken the hose already...I've been meaning to do this for a couple of weeks and your note helped prod me along.

When the Respironics System One comes out with consumer software, I'm likely to get one of those and have two machines as well.

Thanks again,
Jan
Glad to be of help. Just illustrates one of my favorite adages: "There's nobody so useless he can't serve as a bad example" ....
I believe I've read reports of this particular part of the Quattro being very prone to breakage. Resmed has always had a reputation for manufacturing some of the most durable masks available but there have also been some recent problems w/the new nasal pillows for the Swift LT and LT for Her. The complaints seem to be with the more recent nasal pillows not being as reliable as the original nasal pillows and some of the newer ones being prone to "collapse". Resmed has been made aware of the problem and has been investigating in order to find and correct the production problem.
