How Many Men Here Have Beards?
How many of us men with Sleep Apnea have beards?
I do not, but heard anecdotally that many men with Sleep Apnea have full beards to hide, either consciously or unconsciously, the recessed chins that are a hallmark of the disorder.

Frank's sign or Frank sign is a diagonal ear lobe crease (ELC) extending diagonally from the tragus across the lobule to the rear edge of the auricle.[1]
It has been hypothesised that Frank's sign is a sign of cardiovascular disease[2] and/or diabetes. Some studies have described Frank's sign as a marker of cardiovascular disease but not linked to the severity of the condition.[3] In contrast, other studies have rebutted any association between Frank's sign aend coronary artery disease.[4]
Some studies have focused upon bilateral ELC.[5]

I have a beard. I've had one most of my adult life, Well before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and I don't have a recessed chin. I do however have to adjust the mask just right to minimize leaks.

I have a year round goatee (or full beard during hunting season) but not to cover a recessed chin.....probably more to hide my double chin :-) Either way, not an issue as I sleep with nasal pillows.

i have red hair and looked it up
the red hair was because of a faulty gene
i knew those levi's were faulty
secondly red headed people are less sensitive to pain
keep the insults coming
and no i do not have a beard

I have had a beard in some form or another all of my life. And what a surprise that was for my mother on delivery day. "Congratulations Mrs. Parastino you are the proud parent of a bouncing baby Sasquatch." Mind you it wasn't the beard that was the problem but the very broad shoulders that soon followed. I had never heard of the recessed chin mumbo jumbo ( ahhh what a fine technical term ) My chin is more like Reese Witherspoons. Once on a camping trip I managed to open a can of tuna fish with my chin then proceeded to split enough fire wood with my chin to last the whole weekend. Recessed chins and sleep apnea? No, I don.t think so. As far as wearing a beard to cover something that may actually be a self esteem or self confidence issue, well that's not me either. I have a beard, a strong jaw line, sleep apnea and a good out look on life. Good night, I'll be here till November and don't forget to tip your waitress.

I have a long beard and a rather strong chin. When I was in elementary school, I had a large mole on my chin that I was self conscious about, but it was removed while I was in the 7th grade. My mole was removed by freezing it several times with liquid nitrogen and the parts of my beard that had been repeatably frozen turned gray. My beard had a gray spot surrounded by brown beard. Now my entire beard is gray.
