It's starting to feel a little "soft", I have to keep adjusting the seal of the nasal tips. Last night I could feel a tiny bit of air coming out of one nostril, after many adjustments it went away but I don't think it is sealing as well as it should. I have had this mask for 2 1/2 months and I use it 6+ hours a night.

Thanks,

Donna B.

Depending on your insurance you may be eligible for new pillows for the FX once a month. Resmed has been having some problems w/the quality of a couple of their masks, the FXs are one subject to the quality and durability problem. Medicare allows for one cushion a month.

Thanks Judy,

I have excellent health insurance so I would hope that I could just replace the mask when needed. I will call my DME guy tomorrow to see.

The most common replacement schedule for insurances is a mask every 3 months, mask headgear every six months, mask cushions every month, hose every three months, humidifier tank every 6 months, filters depends on brand of PAP.

Be advised that a lot of local DME providers do NOT keep a supply of mask parts on hand and will deny they can be replaced or that your insurance will pay for replacement. Many will also insist mask replacement is just one every six months along w/the headgear because they don't want to be bothered carrying extra parts.

I have seen the "supply closet" at my DME supplier, well stocked with lots of goodies. I just hope he has my size mask in stock ! We shall find out tomorrow.  Thanks.

Glad you brought this up. I have been concerned about my swift fx nasal pillows that seems to be breaking down a bit and I have only used it a month so far. I will call my insurance company and find out what I am entitled to before I call the DME guy. Then I will go from there.

I don't think they last as long as they should.  They are supposed to be good for up to 6 months... but like you said around month 3 you find yourself playing the adjustment game because the material is breaking down...

If your insurance doesn't cover them as often as you want them you can always buy them from me.

I didn't find the discussion on the FX's but did find this thread:

Its a long thread. Some 15 pages.

Medicare will pay for two replacement nasal pillows (just the pillows, not the rest)  every MONTH.  Many other insurers follow Medicare replacement schedules.
Hi Donna, the nasal pillows and mask seals can get brittle if you clean them incorrectly. I use Citrus II (citrus based) or RespiClean (it's .1%bleach, made for masks, I know... sounds like a rip-off but they use in hospitals to disinfect everything ) if you use a little hand soap liquid, I've read not to use anything with lanolin, as mask is made of long- lasting medical grade silicone. ... don't use  dishwashing soap or such..hope this helps. I buy supplies from cpapplus.com, fyi.
