Hi Guys

I have a choice of machines - Philips Respironics Sleep Therapy system and the Resmed s9 elite. Id like to attach a humidifier and your opinions on the autoset or the fixed setting?

Any other machines you recommend?

You guys are all so helpful. Right now I am deciding on Resmed s9 Elite with humidifier or the PR resp Remstar auto algorithm.

My pressure setting is 11. So is it fixed pressure one or the autoset one? Decisions Decisions

Any comment on Resmed Swift FX mask?

Could I get a brief difference between aPAP and cPAP please?

I shall soon be out your hair tomorrow when the medical aid funds reach my account.
a cpap is a set pressure only
an apap regulates or hunts for the correct pressure and can help in diagnostics as to leaks and events

Hi, I have the swift FX nasal plug mask and it is fantastic - non-intrusive, adjustable, light, no itrritation, and great in warm weather (not uncomfortable), the only issue I have is that it does shift sometimes during the night, but a quick weary and gentle push under the nose and all is well again. I monitor my nightly usage via some sioftware I bought (ResMed) and can see that while my setting is variable (4-15) it is mostly around the 7-8-9 overnight, and most of all, it ramps up over 20 minutes. There are some occassions where I wake up and the pump is really puushing air out (obviously an event has happenened or was predicted) and now almost in my sleep I drop the pressure by turning the unit off, then on again, hence ramping up to 4 again - but I am asleep again within minutes I think.
aPAP and cPAP - 'A'djusting or 'C''onstant. aPAP delivers just what you need. cPAP delivers constant pressure (in your case 11) regardless of whether you need it or not. It really comes down to dollars, I paid out for aPAP because the higher opressures annoy me. Hope this helps.
