Congrats on the weight loss! If it's been 20 lbs or more then you may need to be retitrated to a lower pressure. Ah...the benefits of CPAP.
Full face masks are tough to fit on people with thin faces. I actually came upon something that may help.
www.mvapmed.com has a "mask gasket putty" stuff that is supposed to help with leaks. A co-worker and I just found it in the new MVAP catalog. It looks like it's putty wrapped in silicone so that it's reusable. This may help you out.
I also found some chinstraps that are great for staying in place. One is a PURESOM adjustable chin strap for $18.95, the other is just called the RUBY chin strap for $16.95. Our lab purchases some supplies from these guys.
susan mccord said:During BOTH my sleep studies, I had the same thing happen, thinking I hadn't slept when in fact I had. Said the same thing to both techs--"How do you know what's happening when I haven't been asleep?" They both assured me that I HAD been, but it sure didn't seem that way to me.
Also, rememer a few weeks ago, I reported that I was dreaming again for the first time in forever? Well, in the past couple of weeks I've been having problems with my CPAP power and with, I just found out, more leaks again. Got the power unit changed out and it's working fine now. But while reading this thread, I realize I'm back to not dreaming!!!! Masks are a problem now too--I've lost a significant amount of weight since I was diagnosed, which makes my face much thinner--my DME guy tried about 7-8 masks of varying sizes on me this week--NONE of them fit without leaking, including that brand new foam-lined one. So I'm still using my full face which is fine when I'm awake but leaks when I'm sleeping. We messed around adjusting it at DME and kinda improved it, but my card kept showing BIG leaks. What happens if my face is too small for ANY mask?????
Susan McCord :-)
Thanks, Jason. I'm DEFINITELY gonna buy that putty stuff and try it out. I like that it's reusable AND that it's wrapped in silicone. Can't quite figure out how it works but I'll find out when I get it.
Can I buy one of those chin straps? If so, where? And which one would you recommend?
Also, thanks for the weight loss support! It IS more than 20#, closer to 30#.

Jason, I got on that website but was unable to locate the "mask gasket putty" you suggested. I think I checked all the applicable sub-topics. Is it new? If so, maybe it's not up on the Internet site yet. (?)
If you have any ideas about how I can locate this stuff to buy, I'd appreciate it.

Found the chinstraps--how do I choose the size? Also, should I order the one that's listed for use in sleep labs?
Still can't find a thing about that putty, which is of primary interest to me---I've got to stop these mask leaks.
Is your catalog for professional use only?

Hey Susan,
Here is a link to the putty. I did a keyword search on the home page "putty" and it came up. $5.25, so probably $476.95 with shipping. ;^)
https://secure.mvapmed.com/prod-Putty,_2_oz__Resealable_Tub-1196.aspx
Then the chinstrap link is:
https://secure.mvapmed.com/prod-Ruby_Chin_Strap-2748.aspx
I think that the website is for everyone. In the catalog there was a chinstrap that was basically the same as the one in the link provided, but it was adjustable for $2 more. I can't find it now. I don't think it matters if you get the one for sleep labs (though that might be the adjustable one). I don't think I am much help as far as sizing these things. In the lab I make a wild guess, then go back and grab a different size when I'm wrong. :^)
Doesn't Mike have an online shop too? If he has these products I'd try to give him the business first. These prices seem pretty good to me though. I have a feeling shipping is crazy. You'll have to let me know.

Okay, Jason--I got the putty ordered. It's a different route for patients to order--the last link you gave me is for labs only. The shipping was only $386.45!!!!! lol
If you're gonna refer patients to buy their own, here's the info for them to contact:
PATIENT SLEEP SUPPLIES (company) (nice people, very helpful).
1-877-823-9310-----that's the patient order desk--the girl's name is Shontelle (sp?)--pts. have to register with HER, can't register online initially unless it's a lab order.
So have them call that #, and she'll set their account up and THEN pt. can order online.
They take Visa, MC, and AMEX only.
The putty comes in 2 oz. containers only, is tan, costs $5.25 per little tub, and I ordered 5. Regular ground shipping is very reasonable 'cause the stuff's light. But it takes 4 business days. I want it ASAP so overnight is gonna be around the same price as the putty.
Regardless, I'll have it tomorrow. Hopefully it'll work. I told her if it does, she's probably gonna hear from other SG members.
I'm gonna see if Mike may want to get it into inventory IF it works well. ApneaLife may as well get the business 'cause if it works I, for one, will be ordering a boatload of it.
Also she said it can be used several times so it's really economical. Cheaper than Mack's for sure. It IS silicone stuff and it sticks to the mask once it's applied, much like Mack's but way less expensive. AND she said it doesn't take much for the seal to work.
This is my public service announcement for the day!
