I am wondering why there is no one responding to my question about the use of Provent?  Provent has been around for a few years, and I have to find something other than the CPAP because it has caused my migraines to get worse.

Betty, I don't think many people have tried Provent.  One member of the forum said a friend had tried them and didn't like them  I read of two people on another forum who liked them.  All in all I haven't read of more than three people who used them which is probably the reason for the lack of response.  I find most of the people who post about them without trying them have a very negative response which I don't think is deserved.  I think you'll just have to try them and let us know what you think.

Thanks to all of you who have replied to my question about Provent.  I see some of you have tried them with little success.  The literature says you do not put them on until you are ready to fall asleep, and then breathe thru your mouth until you fall asleep, and the nasal breathing will take over.  I have no idea if this is true or not!  I have an appt with my sleep doctor next week, and I hope to get his ok to try them out.  The CPAP is no longer an option for me because it has increased the severity and number of migraines I am having.  I will be sure to let you all know how it goes!

Thanks

Betty V.

I'd really like to be able to use them away from home.  They're too expensive for full time use.  Here's hoping someone can figure out something I've missed, because I visit friends a lot for the week-end and it's always a hassle.  Just can't tolerate feeling like I'm suffocating.

Well Provent is not going to be for me.  Allergies and a bad nose is not going work with this product.  I am also a mouth breather.  Darn!

Same here I am sure. Allergies and consent sinus problems when using my machine. Feel like ripping my nose off. Y face right now. 2 days ago I was just fine! Now it is back! I do not know why I keep trying to use that machine!

I started using Provent about 2 months ago. I used it for more unconventional reasons. My doctor advised me against it because I have sleep apnea and Upper Airway Resistant Syndrome. He did not think it would work for me but he gave me a prescription anyways just to try.

I use it for these two 2 reasons:

1- To unstuff my nose before I go to sleep. I wear it for about 2 hours before sleep. I breathe in thru my nose and out of my mouth. So far, it works great for getting my nasal passages cleared for PAP. I use a nasal mask and I am on bi-PAP. It has improved my compliance. I take them off before I use PAP.

2- I use it to during daytime naps. I have real bad silent acid reflux and need a very empty stomach in order to sleep lying down. I take my naps in a rocking chair with my feet up and my body and head held into position with pillows so that my tongue does not drop backwards and block my airway. I find Provent great for taking naps in my rocking chair.

Some nights I start off with a Provent nap (usually a couple of hours) and then go to my machine. I just hate the machine. The less time on it, the better, in my book.

I have tried lying down and sleeping with Provent on but this does not do the trick. My sleep apnea is too severe for this device to be used this way with me.

This device does take a while to get use too. But so far, I really like it.

Thank you so much for this detailed information, Scout. It's really appreciated by all of us.

Thank you, Scout, for the interesting information.  I am anxious to give Provent a try.  Anything beats what the CPAP was doing to me by increasing my migraines!

Thanks for the heads up.  I think I have one pair left and will try it not lying flat.
