Do you suppose there is any value to an old CPAP machine? I am going through my father's things, and
I found his CPAP. He was not able to adjust to it and only used it very briefly. (If he had used it he might be with us today.)
It's a Remstar Choice LS, model #M367550E. I think it's from the mid-90's.
I'm just going to throw it away unless there's a possibility that someone out there wants it -- and I don't want any money for it, just shipping.

Do NOT throw it away!!! There are MANY uninsured people out there who desperately need an xPAP w/no means to get one.

You can check for A.W.A.K.E. via a google search and contact them. AWAKE tries to assist the uninsured w/obtaining CPAPs, low-cost or no-cost diagnostic studies, etc.

You can also offer it on craigslist.com. Contact your church, they may know of someone who needs a CPAP. Goodwill, St Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army .... even a Free for Free ad in your local newspaper.
I would like it for a possible backup but if you decide to give it to charity that is ok. Pm me and I will send you a check for shipping.
Do you actually use this kind of CPAP machine? It seems so old to me.

No I don't but a pressure of 17 is a pressure of 17 so I possibly could use it. If you don't want to send it no problem. Sorry I bothered.

Mike,
You're welcome to it. Where do you live? Send me your address and I'll ship it on Monday.
You can send info to my email, pfann447@yahoo.com

The Users Manual for the REMstar Choice LS is available online at:

http://www.respironics.com/UserGuides/UserGuideREMstarChoice.pdf" target="_blank">

It has the Ramp option. Filters are still available at various online DME suppliers. It does require manual altitude adjustment. There was one offered on craigslist on 07 Jul 09 that had a humidifier w/it.
Just give it to someone else

Well, honestly, Mike, you're the only one who seems to want it. I certainly don't.
But it's up to you -- if you want it, and are willing to pay shipping, send me your address. Otherwise, never mind.
I just want to get rid of it, but it seems a waste to throw it away.

Anne, if Mike Fritz doesn't want it, go to the URL I gave and print out the Users Manual, put it w/the CPAP and as I suggested earlier contact Salvation Army, Visiting Nurse Association, AWAKE, Goodwill, St Vincent de Paul, etc. The pressure output is easily tested by manometer. Manual adjustment for altitude over 5,000 feet is no biggie and can easily be done by a CPAP provider as can any needed pressure setting.

You might also mention this at cpaptalk.com as there have been posts there from time to time from people needing a CPAP and unable to purchase one and even some who would dearly love a backup and can't afford one.
I did look at AWAKE but didn't see a way to give a machine, just money. But I will post to cpaptalk, that's a good idea.

It looked to me like you were trying to back out of the deal so do whatever you want to with it. So never mind. Thanks

Mike,
I'm sorry it sounded that way -- that's a limitation of email, I guess, that you could not see my facial expressions, etc. My apologies.
If you want it, you can certainly have it, and it will save me the trouble of finding someone else who wants it.
Being a newbie to the CPAP community, it just seems old to me -- but you're right, if you can set it to the pressure you need, it will certainly do the job.
I was sad when I found the machine. My father needed it, but it was difficult for him to adjust to it and my mom was not at all supportive of him using it. I wish he had, because it might have extended his life. I miss him a lot and wish he had taken better care of himself.

So if someone can use his machine, I will feel very happy.
