Do you have to Change Water Every Day?
A member PM'd me this: "Do you have to change water every day? Dumb question?"
I don't think it's a dumb question at all, and I said the answer is no, but that as a rule, I personally do change the water every day. Otherwise mold and other organisms can develop.

ya i would i change the warer in mine every day im worred a bout mold and stuff in my water if i dont . so i would if i was u and cleen it every day . thats that i do

I do not change it. I just keep refilling..and then once a week I rinse it out completely....its perfectly clean.

Same here. I only clean it once a week. Doesn't get dirty using distilled water.

hmm, changing out the water every day can't hurt, but good to hear people are taking a more laid back approach and not getting bad results.

I have to disagree. Distilled water is clean, but it is not sterile. You have a puddle of water that's getting heated to about 100 degrees for 7 or 8 hours a night, and then you let it gently cool for another 16 hours. Essentially, your humidifier is a Petri Dish, and you are creating the perfect environment for colonies of bacteria to grow. Why take the chance? Use only enough water so that it doesn't run dry. First thing in the morning, rinse it out with regular tap water and let it dry.

Been topping my distilled water off whenever I use the humidifier, I use the humidifier in passover mode. Haven't had a problem.

Not as bad a problem when in passover mode. When heated humidifiers first came out, there was great concern that patients wouldn't change the water daily. Some doctors refused to prescribe heated humidification. Nowadays, heat is pretty standard, but it doesn't mean there is less risk.
