I'm very new to this site so forgive me if this has already been discussed but it is too important to not share.  I have discovered, if I get on my computer for any amount of time at all 3 -4 hours before bed, it will dramatically screw up my ability to sleep!  When I researched this, I discovered all kinds of websites validating this.  If I get on the computer at night, I'm lucky if I stay asleep 3-4 hours.  If I don't get on the computer at night, I'm out for at least seven hours with zero nighttime trips to the bathroom..

It seems the blue wave light emitted from the computer monitor will really interfere with your brain's natural sleep mechanisms.

I WAS looking to buy a Kindle but I'm postponing this purchase until I find proof that this device will not impair my sleep like a computer monitor does.

I even tried wearing tinted glasses while on the computer in the evening.  Didn't help.  So now I do all my computer stuff in the wee hours of the morning before I go to work.  If you want to look it up yourself just google "computer monitors interfering with sleep".  You'll get dozens of web pages to view.

Hope this helps someone.

I've taken to asking every SA person I've met how he or she learned about having SA. Only three found out from a medical professional.

I've now met dozens of SA people at support group meetings and those three are the only ones who got a tentative  diagnosis from a health care professional, all of whom queried them about their sleeping habits and possible complaints (from others) about their snoring and/or nighttime breathing.

With those three exceptions, every person I have asked got his or her "diagnosis" from someone who noticed the individuals' snoring, disturbed breathing during sleep, etc., etc.

In my case, I even went to A SLEEP DISORDER CLINIC!!! The doctors, presumable all sleep professionals, diagnosed me with garden variety insomnia and never suggested a sleep study.

In the end, a knowledgeable friend with whom I shared a hotel room  recognized and diagnosed my condition. I went to a different sleep disorder clinic and got a definitive diagnosis. Over 20 years of misery finally resolved.

I LOVE my CPAP machine!!!!

I went through this for over 10 years before I was finally diagnosed. I had seen Cardiac specialists, Internal Medicine specialists, Holistic Doctors, Chiropracters, you name it, and NO ONE questioned me about my sleep. I was convinced I slept fine, except I spent 9-10 hours in bed every night and woke up every morning dragging worse than the day before.....

Good Luck Everyone!

These are 4.00 on Amazon.com and no, I'm not a spammer nor do I benefit from this post in any way. They are just very affordable glasses that work!

I have no doubt that what you say is true for you, but I use my computer almost every night before going to bed and I sleep 7 to 8 hours without any problem!  Maybe I am just less sensitive for some reason - certainly not everyone is the same.

Indeed, Ann: Not everyone is the same. Lucky you that you can use the computer up until bedtime!
