Hi Everyone,

I have obstructive and central apnea, I notice there is a lot of information about obstructive apnea, but I can't find much info on cetral apnea. I am a veteran so I use the va hospital and the doctor there don't seem to know what is causing my central apnea. I had test done on my heart , so it isn't heart failure. I am really concern because what I have read on line central apnea is not common and it is usually due to a serious illness.

PLEASE HELP!!

one table spoon and at least a glass of water more water the better
Thank you. I already take potassium.
I will add apples.
I can't tolerate cider vinegar, though. I have a hiatal hernia, Celiac Disease, and a lot of
acid reflux. I sleep on a MedSlant extra-long bed wedge.

By the way, I bought a CPAP Multi-Mask pillow and I love it.

It is good that your heart is not the cause. There could be a number of things that could be the underlying cause and then, there are times when it can't be determined what is causing it. Here are a couple of links to help you understand central sleep apnea.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/central-sleep-apnea/DS00995

http://knol.google.com/k/central-sleep-apnea#

http://www.apneos.com/csa.html

There are many more sites you can look at. It is a good idea to do some research on your own by looking at reputable sites, like Mayo Clinic or Web MD, etc. While most of the comments found on this forum are excellent, there are some that are close, but not quite accurate. Study and learn about your condition and speak to your doctor as well. If your doctor is not helping you understand what is going on, you need to find another doctor.

Central apnea is basically when your brain does not tell your body to breath. There are many reasons why this could be happening. A good doctor is going to be able to help you get some answers.

That is exactly what I've done. I too have both obstructive and central apnea. As soon as I found out, I started studying to learn about it. It is due to my studies that I realized the doctor I had was not taking good care of me. When I asked questions, he did not give me the answers I felt I should be getting. I am currently with a new doctor who has done a new sleep study on me, then had me come in for titration. The titration did not go well. They were working with me on CPAP, which I already have, and with a BiPap ST machine. Turns out I may need a more sofisticated machine, a BiPap SV. In addition, I may have to go through more tests to determine if there is an underlying condition that is causing the central apnea.

I do understand your frustration. My advice is learn more about your particular kind of apnea and find a doctor who knows about and who will work with you. Don't let them brush you off.
as stated it originate from the brain not sending a signal or it a signal is sent it does not arrive

the other problem is that it impacts on every major organ in the body as they all need oxygen

oxygen or lack of it is called hypoxia or hypoxiemia and even cyanosis

listen to your guiding physision these are your advisors we just help with suggestion which you must evaluate in your circumstanses
