I had the same problem when i first started on bipap. I would hook up and lay down then wham I am wide awake. I finally got past it after a few nights. Now when i wake up in the middle of the night I am wide awake, even if it it just a couple hours. I am still trying to get past this. I guess I am sleeping better so when i wake after a couple hours I feel so rested, maybe I am not used to getting so much oxygen when I sleep. Just keep at it surely it will pass soon for you.

I'm sure this doesn't help much Gloria but, this is my two cents. Hang in there you CAN do it, you WILL eventually fall asleep for longer and longer periods. You are going to have a rough time but remember...you are going to be adding years to your life for you and your family members. I thought I would NEVER EVER get used to my pressure being 18/14. It was sheer torture but I was tough on myself and I've done it and now 3 years later it seems like nothing at all to wear the mask. It took me at least a year to get fully used to all the aspects of dealing with apnea but for some people it takes a lot less time. Hopefully you will be one of those.

Try wearing the mask at other times just to get used to it. Don't go to sleep, just wear it, maybe listen to relaxing music or a book on tape or something. Find a pleasant scented oil that you enjoy and put it near the intake. Just try to make it as pleasant an experience as you can. I'm sure others on here will have more ideas for you. This is a great site for support.

Hang in there and good luck!!!
Bonesigh hit the nail on the head. It would be beneficial to desensitize yourself while awake. Try wearing it while reading a book, watching tv, or doing a crossword.
Hi there Gloria, I am new to this forum and to cpap treatment. I understand what your going through and I found that alot of my problems going to sleep is the fact that it is something new you will learn to fall asleep, you will feel the benefits in the morning and then when going to sleep your body and mind will crave the feeling for next morning and you learn to relax to allow this cycle of feeling great to continue. Alot of adjustment is mind over matter - anyone can get used to anything people choose not to or find that it is easier to ' say I tried and it didnt work vs I persevered and made it work' --if you need reason to comply put the health reasons on the fridge for a reminder and then each morning write down reasons why this has to continue - just stick with it and for all reading this, it is a must to continue - it will work out you just need to be driven towards a health goal.
Thanks for all the help Im trying, And all I have is time I guess, But again thanks for the comments. Gloria
