Can a CPAP Humidifier Aerosolize Micro Organisms?

If a CPAP Humidifier could aerosolize bacteria, we should know about it. I know that most patients and professionals will dismiss this risk -- see study posted at http://chestjournal.chestpubs.org/content/128/4/2138.full.pdf -- but I'm not sure this has really been carefully and, as important, objectively, determined.

Vinegar is an excellent idea any Biologist out there to suggest the strenth or ratio to use
what is it about the process of heating up the water and then having it slowly cool in the humidifier chamber that makes it a particularly good environment for bacteria?

I think that Legionnaires was actually caused by aerosolized water in airconditioners and water taps. Not a passover humidifier. One should be careful, however, when water, air and the possibility of contaminants are in play. It just seems a good idea not to leave the water cooling in your humidifier all day. I don't know that one has to go so far as to use sterile water. Distilled water is recommended for the humidifier itself to decrease the buildup of minerals so the life of the humidifier is longer not necessarily for infection control. Rinsing daily with white vinegar and water should do the trick as far as killing most water borne respiratory "bugs" that might be lurking.

i would say that this is nomally true but remember leigonaires disease

it was freak conditions that caused leigonares disease and so to err on the side of causion is wise
i get it once a month typically. usually when there is the slightest change in my work schedule.

I usually only have the insomnia a day or three once a month. Then I'm fine. I'm going a little bit longer this time and it's resistant to Ambien. Hmmmm. Maybe I need a new job.!!!!!!!!

I wish that I could explain better about the differences between aerosol and vapor but at this hour I'm a bit foggy. (Insomnia is a b*tch).

hey Cindy i know a guy that might be able to help you out lol. I am laughing with you. sleep techomnia (STO) is horrible. i get it at least once a month. Sometimes on my days off I can't sleep until I see light in the windows. Others not at all.
