Does anyone have any experience with a battery back up system. I have looked at the one mentioned on another post and have made some enquiries. I have also requested information from Respironics but their model seems very large and weighs 14 pounds and in Australia it costs $600.00. I just want something as a back up for home if the power was to ever be cut- not likely but remotely possible.

I would appreciate suggestions from anyone who has purchased any battery system.

I have a respironics system one. It actually can run directly off of 12v without using an inverter. I bought a marine battery at sears and a 12v cable for the machine. The battery cost I think about $80 and the cable $25-$30? or so. You can of course run it directly from a car as well. Of course, you'll also need a charger for the battery (maybe $50 or so?).

I took it camping for a week and a half and it lasted just fine and was still around 12v so the battery still had some life left to it. I've also used it at home and used it for 2 weeks before recharging it.

It's heavy but it works and the price is right. If your machine can't run off of 12v then you'll need an inverter which will rob some of the power so the battery won't last as long.

If you have UPS for your computer, you should be able to use that in an emergency as well.
