I'm inviting everyone on this forum to my "Ask Dr. Park" teleseminar on 5/12 at 8PM Eastern. I'll answer any question about sleep apnea that you submit during registration, as well as live during the show. You can either call in with a regular phone or listen in on your computer's browser.

I would like to know the coralation of chari malformation and sleep apnea. I have known of the malformation for 6 years . In the past year I have not one night felt like I had a nights sleep. I am starting tonight 1st time and hope the res med will help me sleep.
also in the past year I have been so forgetful even in the shower I forget if I have washed my hair. Will the cloudiness go away with my new machine? I will also listen to the teleseminar. Thankyou please advise Nurse Lori (newbie and still sleepy)
I have to work Dr. Park. That is 2 that I have missed. Would you come speak at the Indiana Sleep conference in Aug. so I can shake your hand?
Rock,

You can go ahead and ask your question when you register. Afterwards, you'll get a link to the recording of the program.

I'd love to come to Indiana and meet you as well. In what capacity do you want me to speak, and on what topic? What did you have in mind? Having a newborn, I have to be very selective in trips away from my family.

Lori,

For now, give the CPAP an honest try and see how you feel. So far, I haven't seen any studies linking Chiaris and sleep apnea, but I wouldn't be surprised if one pops up in the future. For now, we'll just have to assume that they're both present in you, but unrelated. Many people without Chiari malformations have the same symptoms that you're describing. Treating your underlying sleep apnea is the first step. Please report back to us on how things are going or if there are any problems. Good luck.
Rock -- I think you missed this response from Dr. Park

I did miss this response, thank you.

That is a very good question Dr. Park. I think that I would like to think about it for a moment. Off the top of my head I think I would personally like to hear more about apnea, the anotomical design flaw of the human mouth, and how breathing, swallowing, and speech relate to it. I think before I give you a definate answer I should research some of your previous post. I believe you touched on some neonatal issues that I am interested in as well. The importance of diagnosing apnea as early as possible is yet another. My boss is the vice president of the Indiana Sleep Society. I am going to give her your book when I am done. The conference in August will be my first on sleep, or any other topic for that matter. Thank you very much for responding to my concerns of missing your webinar, and everything else you have helped any of us with. I will some day personally thank you for all the information you have given me.

Good luck with the new addition Dr. Park. Congatulations! I have 2 girls 8 and 1.

Dr. Park, I saw your comments to everyone about having an elective tonsillectomy done and I am very interesting in finding a doctor who will perform an elective tonsillectomy for me. Where is your practice located? I'm getting desperate and starting to think no one will help me about my tonsils. Any suggestions about finding a local surgeon willing to take my tonsils out based on non-medical/ emergency conditions?

Tara,

May I ask why you want your tonsils to be taken out?
Dr. Park, I am having problems with what you called tonsilliths. On a daily basis, I'm having food particles get trapped in my tonsil spaces, getting frequent infections, horrific bad breath!!! It seems like weekly, I'm finding a new hole in my tonsils where more food is being trapped! I even think my tonsils are getting bigger if this is possible. My husband says I've been snoring more since this problem has started (about a year now) and I'm finding it to be humiliating. This problem has caused my personal life and my professional life to suffer and I've been told by my ENT that he won't take them out because it's not a medical necessity and I know this but I think it's a Quality of life issue instead. What are your thoughts?
