I COULD USE HELP INTERPRETING THE STATISTICAL INFORMATION FROM THE DATA CARD ON THE VPAP AUTO 25....IS THERE A RESOURCE OR A GUIDE THAT EXPLAINS INFORMATION RELATED TO RESSCAN?

I RECENTLY RECEIVED A COPY OF MY RESULTS FOR A NUMBER OF DAYS TRYING THE MACHINE. WHILE READING SOME RELATED INFORMATION YESTERDAY, I DECIDED TO LOOK AT MY STATS FOR THE FIRST TIME....I AM NOT SECURE INTERPRETING THEM BUT WHAT I NOTED RE THE LEAK L/MIN WAS THE FOLLOWING: 95TH PERCENTILE:8.4 AND MAXIMUM 151.2 AND MEDIAN 0.0. I SAW CAROLYNS POST THIS MORNING. JEFFS RESPONSE WHICH WAS REALLY GOOD SEEMS ALSO APPLICABLE ALSO TO ME BUT 151.2 WHAT?

I DONT UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE 95TH PERCENTILE OF ANYTHING HERE AND THERE IS NO TIME ENTRY ANYWHERE....

I AM HAVING COMPUTER DIFFICULTIES RIGHT NOW....SO I DONT KNOW IF I WILL BE ALBE TO FINISH.

I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN FOCUSED ON MY MACHINE AND HAVE NOT CONSIDERE MASK ISSUES RELEVANT TO ME.... I HAVE BEEN ONLY GETTING ABOOUT 4 HOURS OF SLEEP THE LAST FEW NITES AND I SUDDENLY BECAME AWARE THIS MORNING AS I WAS REACHING FOR COFFEE ...WHICH I RARELY DRINK... THAT I HAVE BEEN AND AM HAVING SIGNIFICANT APNEA SYMPTOMS.

FALING ASLEEP AT THE COMPUTER, IN FRONT OF THE TV, DROPPING THINGS AND MOSTLY LACK OFMENTAL CLARITY AND INABLILITY TO EXPRESS MYSELF CLEARLY. THINKING CLEARLY TAKES AN INCREDIBLE EFFORT. I HAD WANTED TO ASK SOME QUESTIONS THIS MORNING THATA RE IMPORTANT TO ME RE

THE MACHINE BUT THEY ARE MORE COMPLEX AND I WOULDNT EVEN BEGIN TO TRY TODAY BECAUSE I DONT KNOW IF I CAN EXPRESS MYSELF WELL. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBELMS EXPRESSING MYSELF...THE COFFEE SEEMS TO HELP.

I HAVE BEEN TOTALLY STUNNED AT THIS REALIZATION...HOW COULD I NOT BE AWARE? I GUESS I HAVE BEEN THINKING THAT BECAUSE I AM COMPLIANT AND I HAVE A MACHINE FOR TREATMENT THAT I AM TAKING CARE OF THE ISSIUE..WHEN CLEARLY THERE MAY BE A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM.I HAVE TO SOLVE...ITS DISTRESSING. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN WALKING IN A HAZE. GOOD GRIEF..

THIS IS CERTAINLY AN ARGUEMENT FOR A FULL DATA BASED MACHINE...RATHER THAN MY OLD RESPIRONICS THAT ONLY GIVES COMPLIANCE INFORMATION.

FOR NOW, I NEED TO LOOK AT WHETHER THE MASK OR MY APPLICATION OF IT IS AN ISSUE.

I READ A POST ROCK WROTE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO ABOUT MASK APPLICATION WHICH I THOUGHT WAS GOOD AND THEN DISCOUNTED MY NEED TO DO THAT...BECAUSE THE MASK IS COMFORTABLE, I FALL ASLEEP ON MY BACK..IT DOWSSNT SEEM TO BE LEAKING...BUT I RECALL ALOT THAT I HAVE AROUSALS AND TURN FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND HAVE TO ADUST THE MASK DURING THE NITE. I HAVE IGNORED THAT FOR AGES... I REALLY FEEL FOOLISH.

I LOVE THIS MACHINE AND I BREATHE EASILY THRU IT SO I AM NOT QUESTIONING THE SETTINGS BUT WHAT DO I KNOW?

ANYWAY..IF SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME AN OPINION ABOUT THOSE NUMBERS I WOULD SO APPRECIATE IT.

A RESOURCE RECOMMENDATION WOULD ALSO BE HELPFUL.. FOR RESSCAN INTERPRETATION.

I JUST CHECKED. MY MASK IS A RESPIRONICS COMFORT SERIES...PROFILE LIGHT I THINK I RECALL.

WHEN I PRINTED OUT THE USER GUIDE FOR THE MACHINE THERE WAS A LIST OF RECOMMENDED MASKS...AND S I WONDER...HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO HAVE A RESMED MASK TO ACCOMPANY THE RESMED MACHINE? OR IS IT JUST SALES RELATED INFORMATION?

SHOULD I SHUT OFF THE MACHINE WHEN IGET UP DURING THE NIGHT AND TURN IT BACK ON WHEN IRETURN TO BED? AND IF I DONT SHUT IF OFF AND LEAVE IT ON THEN THOSE NUMBERS WILL PROBABLY REFLECT MY ABSENCE AND HOW CAN THEY BE ACCURATE?

I GUESS THE MORAL OF THIS STORY FOR ME IS TO BE MORE VIGILANT...

FOR ANYONE THAT I MAY HAVE BABBLED TO CONFUSEDLY, MY DEEPEST APOLOGY.

NOW I AM GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE BECAUSE I WAS TOLD NOT TO SLEEP DURING THE DAY...

AND HOPE THAT I DONT NEED TO REPLACE MY COMPUTER....

JUST THINK HOW BORING IT WOULD BE IF LIFE WERE A STRAIGHT LINE...

THANHK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR LISTENING.. AND IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE THAT YOU MAY HAVE.

I NEVER KNOW WHICH "REPLY TO THIS" I SHOULD USE.....I HAVE A COPY OF VELBORS POST AND WILL DEVOUR WHEN I CAN....IT DOES LOOK GOOD.....ALSO THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING THE QUESTION RE TURNING THE MACHINE OFF....CERTAINLY MAKES SENSE...IT SHOULD, I WOULD THINK, ALTER THE LEAK RATE NUMBERS TO SOME EXTENT..I JUST WASNT SURE WHAT TO DO.....

This post, an oldie but a goodie, by a poster named Velbor over at cpaptalk, may come in handy. It is about the info from the lcd screen, but it applies to a printout from the software too:

http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t37640/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33...

Your leak-rate numbers shown to you must by in Liters per minute (L/min) to be that high, I would assume.

You should turn off your machine when it is not in use, such as going to the bathroom, if you want the leak numbers to be meaningful.

Hope that helps.

I find that "Repy to This" thing confusing myself. Learning these forum formats is a matter of trial and error for me.

It might be better to post in all lower-case instead of all caps--the oldsters in the forums consider all-caps posts to be a form of "shouting." But those are the kinds or hints we all pick up along the way.

You are doing fine, claudette. Keep learning. Keep asking questions. Keep posting.

thanks for the suggestion jeff.....i didnt realize that... i have been using caps because my computer monitor is fading away and the print is very light and non adjustable... when i get a new system it will help. looking back at what i posted today...i am sure that some ran for the door..it is overwhelming. i never paid attention....also thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement...i appreciate that...it helps...

thank you Judy....that explanation helps altho i will probably hit the wrong one occasionally....it makes sense tho.. i just left someplace here by mistake where i thought i saw something posted by you regarding resmed data interpretation back last spring i think....or perhaps you commented....if you recall the reference to that i would appreciate having it...it had something to do with 3.7.....i dont know how to look it up....thanks again..

Judy i found the information i saw..i had googled rescan data interpretation and sleepguide came up..there was a discussion between you and ruth in march of 2009 with an offer to see a sample of the reporting pages from the resscan 3.7 in the "ResMed Data Report-interpretation request" discussion....do you know how i might find that discussion here. i would like to see a sample of those pages if possible....thank you very miuch......claudette

It is in the Articles section. Up near the top of this page in the blue you will see Articles listed. Click on that. I'm not sure if it has been approved or not as my first posting of the data was blurry and not clear so I just re-posted some data today and am not sure if it has been approved yet or not.

And when you CAN access it, don't flip out over the HORRIBLE AHIs! I was experimenting w/a full face mask that I really like - I have been using a Simplicity simple nasal cushion that I like really well but would like to be able to use a full face when necessary. Obviusly, at least in my situation, I cannot use both masks at the same pressure settings and we'll have to do some titrating to find the pressure settings that are needed w/this full face mask.
thank you very much for the information. i will check the articles section...i had an AHI well over 100 pre-bipap testing and i still have almost 10...your comment re the mask is interesting...i was surprised to know that changing masks such as you are doing would require titration. if one changes from a nasal mask to a full mask and the pressures need to be altered....how is the titration accomplished? does it require another sleep study or is there a home machine that can be used? thanks judy.........claudette

Often there is no need to change the pressure settings between masks. But it isn't unusual for a full face mask to require a minor 1-2 cms increase as I understand it.

With having a fully data capable APAP, or in my case, fully data capable VPAP Auto (bl-level auto), the need for a new in-lab titration would be unlikely.

Wow! Over 100 events during your sleep evaluation??? You had it bad girl, and that ain't good!!! Shucks, an AHI of 10 looks pretty darn good after 100 w/o xPAP!
Lawdy, jnk! No wonder you've educated yourself so thoroughly!!!! And we've all benefited so much from your doing so! What a blessing.
actually it was 109.6...i agree....10 is better but i want to see it lower....the person reading it suggested 16/12 for my old respironics biflex...and then suggested that if "clnical improvement is not observed" then back for another trip to the sleep lab for higher bipap titration. i dont understand how "clinical improvement" is measured other than my personal responses to the therapy....is there another way to measure clinical improvement?

i havent had time to go back and read the earlier study results...but i am very happy that i found sleepguide...

i am so happy that you got your life back, jeff! getting mine back is still a work in progress... your information is a wonderful helping step in that direction. thanks again.......claudette
