Hi everyone!

I am a 30 years old female who within average weight and very petite - 4' 6.5" tall. I went to my doctor yesterday for a physical. I told her about my concerns with headaches and wonder if my sinus
problems are affecting my sleep (get several infections every few months). Also, I have quite a few family members that have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome. My parents
have been told they need to do a sleep study since they wake up every hour but they are stubborn. Dad take a sleeping pill every night instead of getting tested and he stated that sleep problems just come with getting older. I have done my research but not sure if I have a sleep disorder and wonder if it from my everyday stuffy nose which make me a mouth breather during sleep. I occasionally wake up with a headache and every other day I have a headache. I thought it was sinus pressure not the sleep deprivation. I usually have no problem falling asleep and I can easily sleep 12 hours (feel guilty and lazy if I slept too long) and sometimes still feel tired. I struggled to get up early and probably hit the snooze button for at least 30 minutes before I finally get out of bed. If I have a chance to take naps during day I will take one. I guess I just love to sleep. Majority of the time I do feel tired and feel like I just have laziness in me.

Since high school quite a few people commented on how loud I snored
and they usually look tired because I kept them up. Some say I sound like a freight train or a law mower LOL. In the past year that I lived with my uncle, he has told to get a sleep study (recommended by a few others too) and he commented how loud I snore and that I snort in my sleep. My boyfriend said I snore, my body twitches a lot, and I wake up a few times (didn't know I did this). I hardly ever have dreams and
when I do the dreams don't make sense and only occurred when I woke up and went back to sleep. I also had night terrors (or sleep paralysis) a few times a year. Due to the fact that my sinus CT scan was clear and no blockage, the doctor is sending me to see the sleep specialist doctor.

I already have my tonsils and adenoids taken out and tubes put in my ears when I was young (no more tubes now) which has help my allergies tremendously. My mom stated that I have always snore and the surgery did help the snoring to be less but not gone.

Sorry for the long long message but I wanted your opinion to see if those who are diagnosed with sleep disorders experienced my description. I am still questioning the fact if I need a sleep disorder or just needed better treatment for sinuses also I am only 30 years old. Thanks in advance for those who take the time to read this message and post any advice, opinion, or tips. By the way, I love this website and very informative!

Thanks! Corinne

Thanks! I seem to fine but I have been noticing the symptoms only within the last 2 years or I am just now paying attention.
you need to get a proper diagnosis
Oh I plan on seeing the sleep specialist for consultation first. I just didn't want to waste time and money if it was not the sleep issue.
I second Jeff and 99. Get to a Sleep Clinic!.

Any ONE of the following symptoms, especially in view of your having a strong family history, make having a sleep study a prudent thing to do.

Well my doctor just called and just told me I have low levels of Vitamin D which I have to take prescription of Vitamin D. I researched low levels of Vitamin D and it pretty describes most of my symptoms. I am hoping this fix my problems and maybe I don't need sleep study after all. I have 2 months to see if this work before my consultation with sleep doctor.
Its time for a polysomnogram..if you do not have apnea talk to your dentist about a mouth piece.
Yes I plan to! I am still getting morning headaches.
down load the Epworth scale and or the Berlin scale

ask your self these questions are good indicators of apnea
Your story sounds like many of the people that come into my lab for a sleep study.
Hi, just thought I'd add my comments.
I live in the UK, I was diagnosed with severe OSA in June, have been on CPAP for 8 weeks and I feel like a different person totally.
I would say don't avoid the sleep study - I too was discovered to have low levels of Vitamin D, and whilst a lot of the symptoms are the same, the snoring & snorting are not Vit D related. I discovered that I was stopping breathing on average 86 times a night, no wonder I was tired, I'm sure being Vit D deficient didn't help but it was not the cause of most of my symptoms, as a added bonus, I don't have night time loo trips now my BP has come down since being on CPAP too.
All I can say is give it a go, I really do feel like a different person :)

Thanks PJ Bear! Good to know that. I am planning to go ahead with the October sleep consultant appointment. I just didn't want to be over-analyzing these symptoms and it would something I could fix by better sleep hygiene.
I saw my sleep doctor yesterday which she was very informative. Once she asked me questions and saw my mouth/throat and nose, doctor pretty sure I have obstructive sleep apnea. My sleep study is on Nov. 13.
