At our local AWAKE meeting last night, the Respironics rep there said dryness was the number 1 complaint among CPAP users.   I didn't expect that -- thought it would be mask leak or mask fitting or mouth breathing.

My own #1 complaint is mouth breathing.  What is everyone's else's?

My main complaint is having a runny nose in the morning. The doctor said it is from not having enough moisture ~ I have the Remstar set at 3 for the humidifier and have a hose cover, if I set it any higher then I get too much condensation.
I use Lincare and they have been very good. They call me about 1 a month and ask if I need anything. Have you talked to them about it. It might be a local issue. I live in Abingdon Va and they are very good here.

I'm going for my first sleep study with a CPAP machine. I don't think I should have read this . Ugh
I find that if I turn the heat and/or air conditioning down at night, making it cooler in the room, I no longer have the dry mouth or chapped lips. Until I figured that out, it was horrible. I now have the humidifier set on 2 and I no longer have that problem. Maybe some units force more moisture than others as in the beginning with the first unit I had, I never ran out of water. Even set at 2 now, I use it all in a 7 or 8 hour period. Mine is a "heated" unit .. I understand some are not.
My # 1 complaint is my when I wake up my nose, & OR my forehead are aching !!! The bridge of my nose is so irritated from the mask, I have had several different fittings and tried a bunch of different masks, but it does not seem to make a difference. I have had 1 episode of dryness in my years of using the machine, which I spoke to my RT about, he said to make sure I hit the heat button and it will cause more moisture, so since I've done that I have not had any problem.

I hope everyone is doing well ! Not leaking,,, feeling rested and smiling ! ;-)
It's o.k Gregg, you can only learn from the boards, they cannot do any harm !!! Hang in there ;-)

me too !!! I have the same problems, but it seems although I have tried more "cushiony" masks so to speak, my nose and or forehead have marks on them & are sore.... I have seen the buds up the nose, but I don't like the feeling which this may sound stupid but the thought that something is,,,, well sticking up nose bothers me. Gosh, i am difficult aren't I ? lol !!! Let me know if you find an answer !

My biggest complaint is mask fit , which creates red marks on my nose. I would like to see more "Pillow" under the nose options vs just the over the entire nose or the buds you put up your nose. I use a comfort lite by respironics. Perhaps you could pass that along to the rep.
My unit has a button to push when I turn the unit on that starts out with low pressure and then builds up to my No. 13 setting. My insurance covers a new mask and hose every 6 months. For me it is the velcro that wears out, not the mask or hoses. When I wake up in the morning I forget I even have the mask on. My problem would be the pressure of the mask on the bridge of my nose.

Does the ramp button not help any? I know it does help me. What I don't understand is why not start off on the lower air pressure, then increase. That makes more sense to me. I just might have get a patent on that idea, LOL!!!

Any non-CPAP using person who asks this should spend one night on CPAP to see what it feels like. Heck, it would even be instructive for them to sit there for 15 minutes with it on to see how it feels. Then, ask THEM what they don't like about it and remind them that you have to live with this apparatus on you the entire time you sleep.

Personally, I have to agree 100% with Jennifer...

My #1 complaint is that I feel like I am being suffocated with air- I just want to rip the thing off my face so I can breathe!!!!

The main problems for me is pain on the bridge of my nose and on my neck. I have to place a small sock on the back of my neck to keep the strap from irritating my neck. I'm trying the liners, because I have frequent leaks thru the night, and my mask starts making noises because of sweating. I already keep my bedroom an artic zone!

My wife hates the air that blows out of the front of the mask so if I face her, I have to make sure I put a sheet or the blanket in front of my face!
Hello! I love my ramp up on my Res Med S8 Elite II. It automatically starts when I put my mask on and I have it set for 5 minutes. Usually by the time it gets to my pressure, I am asleep. Just my 2 cents. Take care!
