I made it through the 3 days of smoothies. Good lord! Going from a high calorie diet to a low one is rough. I do not believe that I have ever been so hungry for that long in my life. I was rewarded with a low calorie taco bar for the big game on sunday. I dobelieve that the mexican/italian twist that my wife has put on our diet has been a key to our 2 week success. The flavor combinations that these 2 cultures put into their foods makes eating healthy enjoyable. I have also found that while nuts may be a little higher in fats, that they are also very filling in small amounts. yes I am still hungry, but I feel better.

you have to read the labels. Cutting them all out of your diet may be close to impossible as they are in just about everything. I have found that even more so in foods that are labeled "healthy", "diet", or "low calorie". I do love peanut butter and jellie with a glass of whole milk. That's good stuff. My wife and I have begun cooking most of our meals from scratch. By doing this we are able to control what is in our food without sacrificing a whole lot of flavor.
Rock, that jelly I told you about? I checked and couldn't find anything that sounded remotely like artificial sweetener. I think what they do is just use less sugar, add water, and then the rest of it (with some other stuff) is just pure grape flavor. Now I'm happy 'cause it's a GREAT substitute when I just want a bite of something sweet!

Well, then, that knocks 'em all out for me. Didn't know that. I knew they weren't GOOD for my health but didn't know (or maybe just stayed in denial) that they bad for me. Okay, I'm on it with you then. No more artificial sweeteners. HOWEVER, that makes me wonder and want to ask you about this. (Or I could get my ass out of this chair and go look for myself!...........question is: I've been using sugar-free jelly for some time. Huge cut in calories and satisfies my sweettooth. I just discovered Smucker's low-sugar jelly. I really like it better--still very few calories but has a much grapier flavor. It's GOOD! Now if I find out that stuff is full of artificial sweeteners, I'm not sure I can d/c it. Do you know? or do you just want me to go check it and let you know??!

Well I lost 9.5 ILBS in 3 weeks by just eating less and healthy. Go figure! We added meatloaf to the once a month list. One of my favorites.

Walt- Exerxising at work is a great idea! I am not sure if I could completely stop eating at work. I am more conscience of what I eat at work. I do not eat after work anymore. That was a biggie. Thanks for the tip.

Susan-Artificial sweeteners our bad. Over a time their effects on us can rival that of apnea. Insomnia, and immune disorders are just a few. Sucralose (Splenda) was originally tested as a pesticide.

Rock, I feel your cravings..my ice cream habit is certainly not healthy..however, I have found that I can take a sliced banana, add some walnuts and drizzle with chocolate sauce (it is good for you!) over the top, and it is a lot like Chunky Monkey, only without the ice cream..I have been thinking about freezing the banana for more ice-cream feel..it works well to prevent hunger pangs at bedtime, and sometimes I use it for breakfast with a little french vanilla yogurt and honey with ground flaxseed and cinnamon over the top..I figure that combo addresses a multitude of nutritional needs.
good luck, you are doing great!
My wife made a semi-healthy dessert the other night. Fresh pears, bananas, and honey topped with a little cinnamon. She then baked this in egg role dough (very healthy) and topped with a little vanilla yogurt. It was very tasty.

Thanks Sherry!
I am reading a GREAT book called The Gabriel Method by Jon Gabriel. 2008 (Diet-free!)

Interesting look at the "calories in calories out" weight loss theory. More about WHY we overeat and WHY the body does what it does to stay fat. It is very thought provoking, I am sure you would enjoy it.

Have you heard of stevia for a sweetener. It is from a natural plant source and comes in powder and liquid forms. There are also some forms that have additional ingredients that affect the flavor. This can be good to sweeten tea, smoothies, fruit. It is not really a replacement for sugar, but can help some things be a little sweeter, satisfying the craving for something sweet, or taking the edge off something bitter. There are different brands. I expect it could be ordered online if not easily found in a local store. I would recommend trying the light or clear liquid version to add to beverages or foods that it could be mixed into for starters. This version gives sweetness without other flavor components. This is good for diabetics as it has little impact on blood sugar levels. Another one to try is agave nectar. This is a little like honey, but not as sweet, and also comes in a light colored version and a darker version which has more of the plant flavor left in.

What is the conventional wisdom about "Truvia"? I think this is made from stevia, but am not sure if it is considered natural. I am experimenting with it as an alternative to splenda. I still don't like any of these as a replacement for regular sugar in my once a day cup of Peet's coffee though.
So I lost 13 pounds. I am half way there. This has been tough. I am sad to say that the hunger does not go away. Tonight I get to eat red meat. Call me a carnivore, but I have been looking forward to this since last Wed. Skinny people are either very lucky or very disciplined.
