Susan, I just took a short airline trip and at both airports the machine went through the scannner and they just pulled the machine part from the bag and swabbed it for explosives. They did don fresh gloves and never placed the CPAP on any surface. They were not interested in the humidifier, mask, tubing. I kept the CPAP under the seat in front of me and never let it out of my hands except to scan it. I picked up distilled water at my destination. The airline personnel seemed knowledgeable about the equipment and I had no problems. I flew through Atlanta- a pretty big airport and as it had been checked before I left Norfolk and Mobile they never checked it again. I had the tag you suggested to me with my name on it on the bag. I had read the TSA regulations and didn't anticipate any problems and had none. I did get "patted down" leaving Norfolk. LOL.
Have a good trip.
