Hey, you guys. If you want comprehensive info re: airline travel requirements and legalities for CPAP, Google the following website. It has virtually everything you need to know about our concerns and questions.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

There are detailed instructions for both travelers and security personnel on here--federal law!! I don't think anyone will hassle you, and if they do, pull out a printout of this TSA info. That should shut 'em up!

Seriously, CPAP is mentioned so often on any airline travel/security site I've seen, that I'm pretty sure it's a very common occurrence.

I found out today that not only can you ask/insist that they change gloves, you can also ask/insist that they CLEAN the counter or surface where they set the machine down to check it over. There's also something on there about requesting that they moderate the scanner in some way for CPAP scan. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it's on there.

Also learned that they don't touch hoses or masks. You can leave them in your bag during security check. I'll probably put them in plastic bags just in case they make me put them in a bin. But that's me being a hygiene twitch!

Soooo, I'm feeling a LOT more secure about my upcoming trip!!, and looking forward to getting the heck out of Dodge!!!

There's a TON of info on this site related to travel with any kind of medical condition you may have--and I know some SG members have multiple medical issues, including O2--all you need to know appears to be on this Transportation Security Administration site.

Susan, I just took a short airline trip and at both airports the machine went through the scannner and they just pulled the machine part from the bag and swabbed it for explosives. They did don fresh gloves and never placed the CPAP on any surface. They were not interested in the humidifier, mask, tubing. I kept the CPAP under the seat in front of me and never let it out of my hands except to scan it. I picked up distilled water at my destination. The airline personnel seemed knowledgeable about the equipment and I had no problems. I flew through Atlanta- a pretty big airport and as it had been checked before I left Norfolk and Mobile they never checked it again. I had the tag you suggested to me with my name on it on the bag. I had read the TSA regulations and didn't anticipate any problems and had none. I did get "patted down" leaving Norfolk. LOL.
Have a good trip.

frequent travellers can register with the air line and ask for a form to fill in and be kept on record to save form filling next time

oh i mentioned about informing them before travel you will also need to make a return trip and this should be included in your disclosure and the return trip about electral power near your seat
included in this form is the cpap ,pressure setting ,script ,medications you get my drift
Thanks, 99!! :-)
