I've been doing pretty darn well with CPAP for awhile now--sleeping well and for usually 6-7 hours a night. Still don't feel rested but have more energy, stamina, thought process has cleared significantly, etc. I'm definitely making progress.

However, the past 3-4 nights I'm back to sleeping 4-5 hours, no more. I'm starting to feel the effects of it today. I've been going to bed at earlier and trying to keep it fairly consistent for awhile now. Not eating late at night--not exercising in the evening--far as I know, I'm not doing anything that I know I shouldn't--no caffeine, no sugar to speak of, no alcohol, no sedative except for Xanax 1.00mg hs. (My sleep doctor told me not to worry about that and that we'll deal with that down the road). Long story short, I'm paying pretty close attention to treatment recs, etc.

SO, I can't figure out why all of a sudden I'm not sleeping nearly as well. Wonder if I need my pressure increased again. I go back to sleep MD 12/8. He bumped it up to 10 (from 9) last time which was 9/1.

Thoughts?

Hi, Rally, H.!! LOL re: music and teddy bear!! I've been divorced for many years now--a long time ago, I used to sleep with light music and a whole bunch of stuffed animals during a period when I was particularly lonely. I don't get THAT kind of lonely anymore, but your comment made me think of my bed with all the pillows, bears, rabbits, books, comforters, etc.--I can just picture it all of a sudden. Gotta admit, it WAS cozy!!

The thing that's been weird about this CPAP, for me, is that my symptoms ebb and flow--more ebbing happening lately, thank God. This recent decrease in hours of sleep just confounded me 'cause I'd kinda lulled myself into thinking I was completely over the hump. Since I posted that the other day, the sleep time has slowly begun to increase again. Go figure!! So I'm back to respecting my sleep deficit.....

Re: CPAP dating site issue--I can't recall who suggested it at the time--it wasn't me, but at first I thought it might be fun--didn't take long for it to get out of hand. I bailed out of THAT idea!!

Welcome to SG!!

Rock, no NEW stress--no men = no stress! Re: kids--WAS having a significant communication problem with one of my sons which is now resolving to everyone's satisfaction x 1-2 weeks. I slept my 6-7 hours throughout all the worst of that. Have completed advanced directives, which was somewhat stressful but, again, that was during my "good" sleep period on CPAP. That stress is past.

I really HAVE noticed + changes in TP, energy, stamina--am walking/exercising in significantly better ways.

This decreased skeeo business has happened just the past 4-5 days.

Last night was weird--went to sleep 2:00 a.m. (typical), on CPAP, woke at 6: a..m., was REALLY cold 'cause furnace was turned off and it got cold outside--got up, bathroom run, got another blanket, turned heat on, topped off humidification receptacle, got back in bed with my mask in my hand--was lying in bed trying to get warm and, yeah, you guessed it, went to sleep with my mask IN MY HAND.

(Had every intention of putting it back on as soon as I got warm).

Then slept like a rock till 10:00 a.m. and DREAMED, really vivid, lively dreams, one in particular which lasted a long time. (I have no memory of dreaming even on CPAP for a long time).....what do you (or anyone) make of THAT????? It's just totally different from anything I've experienced to date.

The mask was still in my hand when I woke up!!!

I think the whole thing is just bizarre....

I am wondering if there aren't other sleeping problems besides Sleep Apnea. And, couldn't someone have both sleep apnea and something else.

For me, I have recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea, don't yet have my equipment. Almost every night I wake up around 2 or 3 am (usually go to sleep between 11 pm and 12 midnight). I'm then up for anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours. Is this related to the apnea-- or possibly something else?

Thanks!
If the sleeplessness is not chronic then just wait and watch. Dont think too much about why you cant sleep for that long etc etc ( instead think about getting a Life sized Teddy bear or Winnie the pooh or a big stuffed doggie, that way you will def. get a good night sleep or a nap..;-).Jokes apart, Deal with one thing at a time. May be there is some leakage, may be you are opening your mouth( talking to winnie the pooh..lol!) etc etc. If it continues for more than a mth or so then go for another sleep test( dont forget to bring your T . Bear with ya..;-).

;-)
LMAO, Rally!!! You're gonna be a great addition to this Forum!! Certainly are amusing ME in the midst of giving some really good advice......

there are over 90 different sleep disorders. Apnea, insomnia, PLMS, narcolepsy, and poor sleep hygeine are the most common.

Jan, that sounds like me before I was diagnosed. Well, actually before I started taking Rx for sleep. I've thought all these years that I was sleeping well when, in fact, apnea was kicking my butt, unbeknownst to me.

I've wondered about the weird middle-of-the-night waking up too. I take an anti-depressant, have for years, so I know depression isn't the issue anymore. I'm comfortable in bed, so it isn't that.

I don't know--I have two different thought threads running alongside each other at the moment--then and now. They really can't be compared.

Yes, I'm sure there can be more than one sleep issue with the same person. There have been a couple of people on SG recently who have both apnea and narcolepsy. Now there's a tough situation to manage. At least it seems like it would be.....

I'm rambling....I'm stopping.....'bye! lol

I'm not Rock, but, PLMS = periodic leg movements and PLMD = periodic limb movement disorder.

For several years before CPAP I was on that 2 hours asleep, two hours awake, 2 hours asleep. I have no ideo on explaining the 2 hours awake, but, the usual or "normal" sleep cycle is right around 2 hours, actually more like 60 to 90 minutes but I just always figured that's pretty much what it was, make it thru the first sleep cycle, wake up during or just after REM.
Judy, is that the same as restless-leg syndrome?

I hope someday I know as much as you do about all this stuff..........thanks!

McCord :-)
No restless leg syndrome happens while you are awake. it is a creepy crawly feeling. Almost as if you have to move your legs or walk around. PLMS happens while you are asleep. A high percentage of pts that have one will have the other.

Rock, that helps me understand something I've been wondering about. I've heard people talking about my "leg movement" and I thought they were talking about restless leg syndrome. I KNEW that was an awake disorder, and I also know I don't have it.

This PLMS thing is something else again if it happens when I'm asleep. Before I was diagnosed, I was waking up to find all my blankets twisted completely up. I've always wondered what was up with that, but now I wonder if it was PLMS. It's not happening on CPAP.

Is PLMS a separate sleep disorder?, or a symptom of apnea?

Thanks for you help...again!
