HOLY MOLY!!! I have been using my CPAP religiously now for 6 months. Prior to this I was on a whole bunch of meds, including a blood pressure med. The week after getting my CPAP I stopped 3 of the meds (sleep, depression, and blood pressure). Last week I started taking my blood pressure again to see how I was doing and it has dropped! Nearly 15 points each on Systolic AND Diastolic! I was running 145- 100 and now my average for the week is 125 over 78!!

LOL, Lower blood pressure is definately one of the perks. How are you feeling?
This is excellent news try keep it the bottom figure between 60-80 the lower the better as long as you feel well

should my blood pressure reach 60 i take ether rock or sea salt, but you need to closely monitor your blood pressure to do this.

also salt has a stablising effect on my blood pressure as it does not yoyo, your body will tell you it you have had enough salt.

do not allow blood pressure to rise to much is a tricky art
I didn't know about THIS benefit!!! My BP has dropped dramatically in the past month (been on CPAP x 2.5 months) BP was pretty stable on Rx prior but now has dropped to an average of 80+/60+!!!!! I've been wondering why! I think I'll cut my Rx in half and see what happens. I'm also trying to resume my regular walking program. I'm a long way from being where I was but making headway. That will have an impact on BP as well.

Wow!! This is good news for any of us who have heart disease AND apnea.........

I hear this way too much unfortunately.

There is such a strong link between heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension with regards to sleep apnea. (worst sentence I've ever written. It's the best I can do and it still sucks)

My friend who is in his third year of residency (he's much smarter, taller, and better looking) says that they are only trained to treat the symptoms. "Here is your prescription."

What a drain and strain on the healthcare system. Just treat the underlying apnea and voila...all better.

One of our sleep specialists, Super Doc, (yes...he does wear a cape) is educating all of the primary care physicians to look for risk factors of sleep apnea and get that treated. Why is this not being taught in med school?

This is akin to wearing earplugs to "fix" a noisy washing machine. Fixes the symptom, but not the problem.

I use the blood pressure thing as a selling point. I have found that most people have been nagged about their blood pressure and cholesterol to the point of sickness. Letting them know that not only will PAP help them with their fatigue, but also their BP is huge.
Jason, what can you tell me about the relationship between apnea and heart disease? I have CAD. I've looked online, and plan to ask my cardiologist about it as well when I next see him in a couple of months. But I haven't found anything very definitive, at least not anything that's helpful to ME.

I hope your Super Doc is wearing more than a cape since he's in ANTARCTICA !!!!! LOL !

I can't believe the difference (neither can my wife!) It's been 6 months and I have my concentration and energy back, too.

J Sazama! I LOVE your Super Doc. Any doctor with that sense of humor is SPECIAL!!
I had a follow up visit with my oncologist today. I've had a fantastic drop in my blood pressure after just over 2 weeks on the CPAP. This is such good news!
Congratulations, Bradley. BUT just abruptly stopping an antidepressant is NOT such a good idea. AND stopping your BP med w/o running daily BP checks for at least a week or even two after wasn't the smartest thing you've ever done. Thank goodness it all worked out for you!
yes welcome to world of finding out there was a deeper prob...i was there as well!! was takin a real high dose of bp med and was thinkin of getting treated for depression as well was also fightin weight gain...not so anymore. good luck and good therapy to you!!
I have noticed a drop in blood pressure as well. I think I will talk to my doc and see if I can try it without meds. Congratz on your acomplishments
