Watching HBO Special on Alzheimer's Made me Think of OSA

there's a terrific HBO documentary series on Alzheimer's running that I highly recommend to everyone out there. one of the things that it stresses is that when blood pressure goes up, the heart works harder. just like any muscle, when the heart works harder, it gets bigger. when it gets bigger, it requires more blood to operate, which depletes blood from going to other parts of the body, including the brain. then brain disorders like alzheimer's develop.

i know that sleep apnea causes high blood pressure when untreated, so thought this was of interest to the sleepguide community.

I have seen bits and peaces of this show. I really enjoyed what I saw.
I saw a little about this documentary on one of the morning shows and it's so important that I can't believe its on a pay for view channel. :( I don't have HBO....wish it was running on Discovery Health or something. Thanks for the info!
Dee, not sure how much this helps, but if you're a subscriber to Netflix, they carry the series, called "The Alzheimer's Project." Also, it'll probably find its way to Blockbuster, etc. at some point if it hasn't already.

If you listened to my interview with Dr. Mack Jones, he gives some convincing evidence that OSA is a major cause of Alzheimer's. I also recently posted a discussion here one SleepGuide on sleep apnea, blood viscosity, and brainstem lesions.

It makes perfect sense, especially if during apnic events the oxygen saturation drops sgnificantly, then loss of brain cells and Alzheimer's. If hypertension is an issue, you have a nasty combination.
