Donna, my heart goes out to you, because I experienced the same years ago.  Frightening beyond words.  I was eventually diagnosed with Narcolepsy. (16 yrs. ago.)

 

For me, I had never heard of "temporary paralysis".  I was so afraid of telling anyone.  I figured they would not put me in the insainasilum, but underneath!

 

I described as being in a black hole.  Completely aware of your surroundings, but unable to respond.  Like you said:  you can't move,  you can't speak,  and I couldn't even open my eyes!  For me it occurred always in the morning, never at night

.

I'm about to turn 47.  I experienced what you described in my late 20's.  Be assured, I will never forget what it felt like.  Hope it helps to know others have experienced what you've been through. Michelle
