Hello Bart,

It's amazing to me that I haven't been on SG for a year !  WOW!  That's why you haven't heard back from me.  In addition to the research I did, Rock Hinkle also did a lot of research re: alpha intrusion to try to help me but in our research the only possibility we came up with is that possibly my benign intentention tremor causes me to have tremors at night that could wake me up.

Also a, seemingly, unrelated problem that I've had is with a lot of GI problems including a hospital stay.  Over the past few months, even though tests did not indicate that I had Celiac diseast, I went on a gluten-free diet which helped somewhat but not enough and I so I then had to take a really potent antibiotic which was highly successful.  And, after that, I seem to have been dreaming, which is the stage that follows deep sleep so it may be that my alpha intrusion is related to my GI problems.  But I don't know about that for sure yet.

I have seen an excellent sleep specialist at Columbia University's Neurological Institute, Dr. Bazil and he thinks that there is no way to determine the cause of alpha intrusion and that the only help is to try meditation as well as to try sleep RX.  I have tried them all without success but in case you would want the list of meds: at night - Neurontin, Gabitril, Lunesta, Lyrica, Xyrem and daytime - Nuvigil or Provigil.  I think Provigil may help a little during the day and I am taking the majority of my daily dose of RX to control benign intention tremor at night.  Also Xyrem at night might help but because of my GI problems, I have not been able to take Xyrem for more than a few nights so I don't know yet if that will help.

Have you gotten any help with your alpha intrusion?  I haven't been on SG because I've been so tired that anytime I get awake and alert I have to use on real necessities so I share with you how much of a problem alpha intrusion is.  I do hope you are feeling better.

Best for now and wishing you good rest,

Renee
