my friend who has a nurse attend to him from time to time for an unrelated disability wrote me as follows:

A Medicaid home care nurse came by today.  I was in bed wearing the full face CPAP mask hooked up the machine.  She commented, "I see you need oxygen therapy."  I responded that it's a CPAP unit and not oxygen.  There is no oxygen tank anywhere.  I had to educate her about obstructive sleep apnea.

The Guest doctor on todays THE Doctors tv said the best position to sleep was on your back! and if you get woken up by snoring noise just use ear plugs!!! Not get on your side and get a sleep study!!!! AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!  We have much educating to do.Good Sleep Chris

Chris,

I happened to catch that same episode. I just stared at the TV and kept saying "Really?". Not one mention of OSA, not one that I heard. So snoring is just a nuisance and not a potentially serious medical condition ? I wanted to email that panel of dimwits but I haven't had 5 minutes free time until now. AARRGGHH is right Chris, education is the key.

Let's fill up ABC's e-mail inbox with requests for a Sleep Doctor who can set the record straight about OSA and it's symptoms. I'll go first. :)
