what is the danger of falling to sleep with out CPAP ?
I'd like to know the danger of falling a sleep with out my CPAP on ? I do this quite offten. At times I awake gasping for breath,feel like I've been running,asking God please don't let me die.
Most of the time if I don't have it on I sleep o.k.
Please let me know the danger. Thanks

Jeff you are right that some who lose weight continue to have OSA and in some it may worsen after their wight loss. I have lost over 130 lbs. in less than 2 years and thought that after such drastic weight loss I would no longer have OSA, but lately I feel like it's actually worsened.

I would like to show my ignorance here if I may. I am miserable if I lay down and fall asleep without my Cpap machine. I drift off sitting up I have no problem. I also have some narcolepsy so I can fall asleep sitting up real easy. I take Nuvigil to help with that. I am not over weight. I have an acquaintance who was over weight and on a CPAP, machine. He lost his weight and no longer needs it. My ignorance comes in that I do not know what COD, OSA,and CSA stand for.

Charles, there is a glossary under the FAQ section if you want to look at that. COD may be cause of death, I don't know if it stands for anything else. OSA is obstructive sleep apnea, CSA is central sleep apnea.
Asking questions does not show ignorance, it shows that you know enough to ask about what you don't know. I'm having to ask all the time.
