What Causes Drooling w/CPAP And What Can Be Done About It??

After 19 months on CPAP and 12 months on a bi-level all of a sudden I've had several nights of drooling. I mean like a dried froth on my lips and around my mouth, especially the corner of my mouth and sticky like paste or glue drool coating my lips and even sometimes my chin strap. YECK! and BLECH!

WHY after all this while and what can I do about it?

I don't know why but maybe someone here knows the answer and the solution...............What causes us to drool?

I've been drooling buckets since I was 18; drooling out of the side of my mouth and soaking my pillow. I was diagnosed with apnea last year (I'm 58 now) and I still drool with a mask on but hopefully not very much.

Can this water ruin the machine? Does the pressure stop most of the drooling?

I don't have any advice but do know that although I don't drool, at times my husband does and his pillow will have a big wet spot. I have thought that it might be his dentures since he wears them all the time, even at night. The only thing I don't understand it would look like he would be so use to them now that it shouldn't be a problem as he has had them since he was 21 and he is now 56. So I, too, am awaiting any answers (although hubby isn't on a cpap).
BPLink, you don't have to worry about the drool getting into your xPAP. Nor even if you encounter "rain out", that condensation that can occur between your humidifier and your mask; that can't enter your xPAP either. The only risk to your xPAP from moisture or water would be if you over-fill your integrated humidifier tank or if you were to forget and move or tip your xPAP w/water in your integrated humidifier tank. Always remove the humidifier tank before moving your xPAP.
I don't have an answer I just want to add to this. I have recently been diagnosed with apnea and I am on my second mask,
I am using the full face right now. Last night I only lasted 3 hours because of the extreme dry mouth I am experienceing and the thick sticky paste on my lips. So I am also looking for answers in this area. I have also had the drooling. I have changed the humidifier settings several times and it makes no difference.
