What are the best cleaning solutions to use for the mask and tubing, etc.? What consequences can occur if the equipment is not cleaned properly?

Hose: I never clean the inside - three years on current hose and if you shine a light into it you can see it is clean. Nothing goes into it except filtered air and water vapor. If you are careful with your equipment, cleaning the inside of the hose is more likely to introduce unwanted materials than leaving it alone.

Mask: Gently wash in warm water and Ivory liquid hand soap (not anti-bacterial) every few days.

Frequency of cleaning is a personal preference that is often overdone. If you take reasonable care of the equipment, failure to clean it will not have any dire consequences. All my opinion.
I am a respiratory therapist and I disagree that there are not any consequences with not properly cleaning your equipment. Anytime you add water to anything it is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, not to mention that if you have ever had any kind of virus or infection this adds to it. I tell all of my patients that you should clean your mask, tubing, and humidifier chamber in soap and water each week. If you have a reusable filter this should be cleaned in clear water and air dried once a week as well. I have seen patients that have suffered serious infections from lack of cleaning, so please clean each week.
