Vaccine for Whooping Cough & Warning About Outbreaks
A couple I know both had pertussis (whooping cough) last winter and it was hell
for them that lasted months. I can't imagine how bad it would be for CPAP users
- coughing uncontrollably 24 hours per day for months.
I understand whooping cough is back because people have not been vaccinated. A friend told me the vaccine people have been taking is Td (tetanus and diphtheria toxoids vaccine without pertussis).
The current vaccine is Tdap (tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis
vaccine).
The recommendation for Td was every ten years. The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is now recommending you immediately get a Tdap vaccination if you have not had one. This is recommended no matter how recently you received a Td vaccination.
I had a Td vaccination five years ago and will get a Tdap vaccination this week!

Rooster, I dound the recommendations a bit confusing. Are they recommending a booster for those of us fully vaccinated against Pertussis as children? I am presently 57 years old and received all recommended vaccinated as a child.

I had my immunizations as a child. I can remember mom talking about the kids that didn't get vaccinated and their horrible coughing if they were unfortunate to get whooping cough.
