Anyone ever try meds to keep you alert during the day? If so wht did you use? So far the CPAP and coffee is not cutting it. Iam looking for something else to help.

Giggle. Showing my age. My immediate thought on seeing the Subject title was "upper" dentures. People w/upper dentures often have mask fit and seal problems.
I think they ae called energy drinks these days and they can cause heart palpitations etc.

Thanks, never heard of Provigil. I was thinking a ADD drug like Ritalin.

As far as the therapy it is the same old thing. The PAP gets me up a hour or so before I would usually get up and Iam sleepy all day. I gave myself a break from the PAP for a few nights. Discouraged but Iam going to try to hang with it.
Other than caffeine I stay away. But my sleep doc did have me on Provigil for a while. They usually use it to keep narcoleptics up. During the day I had energy and it did seem helpful, but it wouldn't wear off and I couldn't sleep at night. It got really annoying after a few days so I stopped. I told me primary care physician about that and he said "well, it IS basically speed". After discussing it with my sleep doc, I tossed the rest down the toilet. I found out later I could have gotten temporarily rich by selling the rest to truck drivers! :D

Provigil is sometimes known as the truckdrivers drug of choice...
Hi Chris, Even though I was sleeping better with my CPAP I was still foggy during the day. My doctor put me on Provigil. This medication has really helped. It is not like an upper. You don't get the same feeling as being on an amphetamine type drug. You do not get shaky. It basically clears the fog in your brain and you are able to think clearly, remember things and stay awake. I take it in the morning and have no trouble getting to sleep at night. It is also used for Narcolepsy. This medication has given me a new life!

Thanks for the input. I hope it works out as good for me.
How about Nuvigil? While looking into Provigil I fond some info on Nuvigil but not sure what the direance is. Are the the same?
If you are on CPAP you should not take any pills or (ENERGY) Drinks. If your on a AUTO CPAP thats the problem. Are YOU?
Duane will give me the run down on uppers and PAP therapy please. I have been trying to find some info on the pros and cons of drugs and sleep. The text books are very limited in their info. I would really appreciate anything you have.
