Just some thoughts:

I would approach the manufacturers, i.e., ResMed, Phillips (Respironics), Puritan - Bennett, etc.. In exchange for sponsoring the site, they get a direct market place advertisement to the cliental they are trying to reach. Restrict their ad size so one benefits no more than the other. In return, you may be able to negotiate the inclusion of information with their product(s) of this site.

Stay away from physicians, sleep labs, & DME suppliers as they are very subject to quality of services supplied. You don't want to end up in a position where you are associated with a questionable firm.

If you want to approach this type of service, then it needs to be done in a separate section indicated as a paid listing of services with disclaimers galore indicating no affiliations or preferences. Let the advertising service indicate their affiliations and subject to their own liability for their advertisement. You could also add a customer-rating feature to their ads, which would afford the service users to rate them.
I doubt you will attract many manufacturers if you restrict them to a special advertisers section.

On the other hand, keep in mind some of us are still stuck w/slow speed diail up and page loading time w/slow speed dial up. I've abandoned sites because they took to long to load each page due to pictures, videos, ads, etc.
definitely let me know if things are loading slower because of the ad.

The Google ads don't seem to slow anything down for me. The ads all seem to be for online CPAP companies. If it makes some money for SleepGuide, great. I don't think it negatively affects the site.

yeah, i guess the key is to strike a balance where whatever ads that are on the site are tasteful, unobtrusive, and maybe even helpful, but in a prominent enough place so they get clicked on, which is the only way they generate any money.
