True: Community Service Requirement for AASM Accreditation?

I heard from a DME provider that the AASM requires labs to do patient-oriented "Community Service" of some sort to get accreditation.  Anyone know if that's true, and where that's set out in the rules if so?

Not sure Mike. I know that the organization that I work for is required to do so many community service hours to maintain it's not for profit claim. I have never heard of an AASM requirement.
Hummm,

I heard that lawyers are suppose to do so many pro-bono cases. Not sure if that is true though.

It seems it could be a win-win situation. Newbie techs need someone to practice on and some can't afford the full costs associated with the sleep studies -- so why not allow the newbie techs to get the practice this way?
I know that for lawyers, the pro bono requirement is codified by each State Bar Association -- and actually, in the case of lawyers, codified into law. I'm wondering whether the AASM requirement is as formal.

Also, I don't think the idea is for the community service to consist of running tests on people who are unable to pay. It was explained to me as more of a requirement to involve themselves with a local AWAKE group or somehow otherwise raise awareness of sleep disorders. Sounded like a far-fetched requirement to me, which is why I'm checking with all you to confirm/ deny.
