Traveling to Peru
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are are going to Cuzco, Peru in June. I have a few questions some of you may be able to answer. First, will being in the high altitudes of Cuzco and surrounding area impact myu sleep apnea? More specifically, will the process of acclimation be any more difficult (i.e. will my altitude sickness be any worse?). Once I have adjusted, will my sleeping be any better or worse in these altitudes? Finally, we would love to go trekking in areas where there is no electricity. I haven't gone a night without my CPAP and it bothers to me to think I would essentially be camping without it ... but not going to these places (I am an avid birdwatcher) bothers me as much! Any suggestions?

Hi Janie, Their are battery packs for camping cpap. Find out if your machine has a dc input . Or makeup a battery pack with an inverter for power. Call your dme or google cpap battery pack no need to be without cpap.Enjoy your trip.Good Sleep, Chris

Chris, It turns out my machine doesn't have a DC input. That;s too bad since it isn't even a year old. Seems to me someone should have asked me more questions to know whether that would have been useful or not. The machine that was recommended cost more than $700 with an integrated battery pack! What is an "inverter for power?" Is this something I can make to use with my current machine? Thanks!!! Has anyone else had luck with using CPAP on camping trips? --Janie

Hi Janie, Portible power packs have inverters in some of them. They started as Booster packs to jump start cars with dead batteries and have evolved. I have seen some with two outlets .An inverter converts 12 vdc to 110 vac . I do not remember the brand names but would do some googling of automotive and camping type companies for portible power .You can also purchase an inverter and hook it to a car battery . Go to a auto parts or RV camping store they can show you what a booster pack looks like and you can see how heavy it is . Good Sleep,Chris
