This mask is ancient. It is affectionately know as the Jason mask (as in the Halloween Movies). It is a vatiation on masks designed for use in an ER where the patient is unconcscious and you want to quickly slap on a mask that you know will fit. The exhalation ports are two holes near the nose, so at higher pressures, this mask howls with noise. Since the patient's eyes are inside the mask and exposed to high pressures, I would think it would easily dry one's eyes out.

The only success I've had with this mask was with someone with extreme facial deformities. Other masks simply wouldn't fit, so this mask cover the entire face to solve the problem. I consider it a mask of complete desparation.

i didn't want to say it, but Daniel, you read my mind. This mask is downright scary looking and the first thought that crossed my mind was Jason/ Friday the 13th.

A picture is worth a thousand words....

Thanks Mike.

imagine this is the first and only image of a cpap mask that a newly diagnosed sleep apnea patient is presented. chances of patient accepting sleep apnea therapy = 0

That is funny. I had heard that this mask could be used for people whom have a serious and unfixable mouth breathing problem as an alternative to the ffm. Just wanted to get some feed back.
We do have a forum member that uses this very mask. She has stated that she tried many mask prior to this and found that this one works for her. Hopefully she will see this thread and will comment on her opinions on it.
hope we haven't offended her by comparing the mask she wears to the one worn by a sociopathic serial killer in the Halloween movies. i will fully understand if she's offended.

We probably should be more aware that just because something doesn't work for the majority of the users -- there are exceptions and someone is using that method, options, etc. and making their therapy work for them.
totally agree. thanks for being the voice of reason, Sleepy Carol. that makes perfect sense, and i got a little carried away there.

This mask and the oracle by fisher peykel have both been offered to me as a solution to chronic mouth breathing, and clausterphobic issues. I have been on a mission since I read Mr. Levy's post on true mouth breathers-vs-stuffed up nose. I want more solutions to the compliance/tolerance problems that my patients may face. I know that both of these masks are ancient, but new does not always mean better.
