When are you taking it?
Thinking of Taking December test. I've been studying for a while. Just slacked off a lil recently. I know ppl who took it and there was a few subjects they were never told to study that popped up.

Yes, i do have a fundamentals of sleep book but not the one ur talking about. I will look it up on amazon. I just ordered study cards for sleep techs by william sprigg (they just came out this month). Glad to know Spriggs was helpful. thanks for all the info!

I took the exam 3 years ago. What I thought was on the exam that I didn't study was infection control. I think they've changed the test a bit since then. What I do remember was that there was a smattering of everything. A little EKG. Artifact recognition. Head lead placement. Things like that. What I found helpful were tapes of the, then APT, review sessions. I don't know if you can even get copies of them these days. Very informative as far as EKG interpretation. I also ordered a book from Amazon called
Fundamentals of Polysomnography and Sleep Disorders by Dr. Thomas M. Kilkenny that I found helpful there is also a workbook that goes with it. I also skimmed and took the tests at the end of the chapters in Principles of Polysomnography, by Spriggs. There is a new edition out in 2008. The previous editions still have stage 4 sleep.

I hope that helps.

I am studying the Essentials of PSG by Spriggs. It is volume 2. Archiving is pretty easy i will send you what i have in the morning. Do you have the scoring manual? The ped rules are in the back. I do not get to take my test until March, but I have not missed a day of studying since i took my ASTEPs.
God I'm such a jerk. I really felt that Spriggs was bad...

The Atlas of Sleep Medicine was very helpful. (Bhatt and Thomas and ??? authors). Spriggs was a good place to start...sort of. I'd definitely hit up the new AASM Scoring Criteria.

I took it in 2003 (so, awhile ago) and I hear that it's changed emphasis to Sleep Lab Management and Patient Safety. Know 10-20, know your filters and Sleep Staging.

I did not like the first spriggs. the second one is better.
Honestly I have read just about everything. I am currently stuck in the fundamentals of EEG. My wife's program has brought a new influx of books into the house. Have you found binarysleep.com yet Jackie?
Archiving is typically regulated at the state level. Most states require a good back up system. 2-3 copies on file for 7 years for adults. Data on minors is required to be held until the pt is at least 21 regardless of age at the time of the procedure.

here are some helpful links.
Try looking for your specific state in this output.

Yes, my lab has the scoring manual so I basically made copies of the whole book.

Thanks. Well I heard that about Spriggs from one other source. I'm just ordering his new study cards no textbook. I have fundamentals of sleep technology by Nic Butov and Teofilo Lee-chiong. It's ok but skips around a bit and u can never find anything in the index, it's weird. But thanks for the info.
