Just trying to drum up a few posts-
What symptoms did you have that got you to the sleep apnea diagnosis?
I was excessively tired during the day- falling asleep eating breakfast and standing on my feet. I couldn't drive or stay awake during appointments. I thought this was the beginning of my apnea. Then I remembered the mandatory 4-5 hour naps in the afternoon when I was dead to the world. That must have been the real beginning. I went to my family practice doctor hoping for a prescription for Ritalin and he sent me for a sleep study instead.
I barely passed the sleep study with an AHI of 5. The doctor gave me a choice- to try CPAP or wait and see. My daytime sleepiness was so bad,I was miserable and my psychiatrist had put me on Provigil (expensive at that time) which helped keep me awake until early evening. I jumped at the chance for CPAP. I was 100 % compliant from the start though I woke up a few days with the mask off.
Here I am more than five years later. It took me four years to get the right machine and prescription, but now I'm doing great.

Good post Mary, I was like you when I was younger but the the sleep deprivation really started kicking in a few years ago my symptoms change, actually didn't change but got much, much worse. I was diagnosed with depression and on meds for 2 years that didn't work, I never felt sad like typically depression patients, I felt sick, exhuasted and kept telling my specialists I couldn't sleep and when I did I would wake up and couldn't breathe. I had aches and pains in all my bones, the worse was the left side of my jaw that was just numb, stomach aches, chest pains, I lost 20kgs (40 pounds), that foggy feeling all day, pretty much all the SA symptoms. The funny thing was no one diagnosed me with SA they kept saying I had depression. I listened to my body and my brain and kept going till I found the answer. I was obsessed, spent hours on the internet and at doctor appointment week after week and then by accident my now Sleep Specialist and person that saved me advertised for people with SA to be involved in a study he ws doing. I rang and didn't fix the criteria because I wasn't diagnosed but the reception could hear that I was in such a bad way, she said she would get me in to see him without a referal. As soon as I walked in his office he said you have servere SA and got me in for a sleep study the next day, I had my CPAP a couple of weeks later and have never felt this good in my whole now 50 years of life. :)
