Some of you might find this funny but I live in a very old neighborhood called Rocky Ripple in Indianapolis. Once a month they publish a local paper called "The Ripple Effect" for it's 650 home owners. This next month they have asked me to feature an article on sleep. I have narrowed it down to 3 topics of discussion: Sleep Hygiene, Untreated Apnea, and signs that you need a sleep study. If anyone has any suggestions as to any information that I should add pleased let me know. If it is ok I am going to refer questions back to sleepguide as well as my personal Email. Thanks

Just a suggestion to really stress the risks of Untreated Apnea. And to avoid panic on the part of some few readers be sure to mention they are long term effects but what can happen.
You mean Rock(y) Hinkle lives in Rocky Ripple? And you think that is funny??? Geeeze :>D

Rock, I think the thing that is so important to get across to people who don't know a thing about sleep apnea are the signs. I never knew snoring was a sign of anything...but being annoying to your family members. So my advice would be to think back to when you knew nothing at all about sleep apnea, and address those basic concerns. Congrats for getting the word out to so many people, what a positive influence you will have on your community.

I give Rock Hinkle enough grief, I figured I'd leave it up to someone else to bring up Rick Hinkle living in Rocky Ripple. Choke. Snort. ROTFLMAO. Giggle.(Ya think maybe he's pulling our leg a bit?)
This is a great idea Rock. As someone in denial for so many years, I would stress the warning signs that I thought were just my "normal". I'm sure a lot of us here know them:
- a tiredness and lack of energy for the things you used to like doing let alone the things you have to do.
- irritability at people and circumstances that you used to brush off as minor bumps in the road
- waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom mulitple times without an apparent reason
- starting the day unrefreshed, can't focus, activities that used to be simple seem to take monumental effort.
- going to sleep regularly during sendentary activities or even during activities where awareness is critical (i.e. driving)
- unsatisfying and hurting relationships with your spouse and others because you just lack the energy to be a friend/husband/father/mother.

If any of those things strike a familiar chord, they should seek out the help of their primary physician or sleep specialist. I would emphasize that depending on the severity their disorder and the diagnosis, the therapy can produce results that are truly profound and will give you back parts of life you may have resigned yourself to as lost.
Nope i was actually conceived in Rocky Ripple Indiana, a little incorporated neighborhood smack dab in the middle of Indy. We have are own volunteer fire dept. and police force(1 marshall). It is surrounded by water on three sides, and on the 4th by Butler University. I have been told that driving into the neighborhood gives the impression that one is leaving the city. it is our own crazy little utopia. My family has lived here since 1939. I am the 3rd generation to own a home here, and currently 5 generations of my family live here. We even have bumper stickers that say " I am not lost I live here! Rocky Ripple Indiana" LOL. I told you that some of you would find it funny.

My history isn't nearly as interesting as yours --- but here goes --

My grandmother lived in the house I grew up in prior to her death (I was a year old). My dad had purchased the house for him mom after his dad's death. We moved in after her death and I lived there until I was married. I married a neighbor boy (we grew up 2 blocks from each other. We purchased a house in the middle. My brother is still living in the old home place and we have lived in our current house for 34 years (prior to that we lived across from my family in a rental house). 2 of my brothers live in the same block and one daughter is 2 blocks away. So we are really close to each other. Another daughter lives just a few blocks away (approximately 5). It is the running joke in this area that we run the neighborhood as we know most of what is going on here. Most of the homes are now rentals with slum lords and have gotten really run down -- yet we some how have a connection with this area and wouldn't dream of leaving.

I know this doesn't have anything do to with sleep apnea -- but hey old neighborhoods are great and have character!!!

Rock, be sure to list the warning signs of sleep apnea and urge those with symptoms to get a sleep study done. You might also find out about the local resources that are available.
I would say that was pretty interesting Carol. Our neighborhood had some slum lord problems a few years back. Somehow it all settled back into some normalcy. We are one of 5 families that have between 3 and 5 generations living here. I believe we have been here the 2nd longest. there are 7 spots on the town board 5 of which are occupied by representitives of those families. Of my 4 brothers only 1 does not live here, but he just asked us to start looking out for a house so who knows. As long as i stay in Indiana this is home.
You have a lot to be proud of, living in a TRUE neighborhood! (Not a builder's subdivision). It is something that a lot of people would give anything for, history and a home to be proud of! I know that you will find just the right thing to say in your article, I agree totally with the symptoms Eric mentioned in his post.

You know Rock, we tease you because we like you so much.... :>D And Judy PM'd me and told me to tease you.....
