Can snoring be a sign of sleep apnea? I recently got diagnosed with diabetes 2 in November of '08 and just recently within the last 3-4 weeks I have been snoring so loud that I have been running my wife out of the bedroom. I have always slept hard to the point that I would not hear a thing. What should I do? My doctors bills are so high from the diabetes right now because I cant get health insurance till I have had my diabetes for a year. I need some advice. Thank you, Steven Andrzejewski

Steven, there are 2 questions there, one that's easy to answer, the other that is more difficult. The answer to your first question, whether snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea, is without question, absolutely, no doubt, YES. Also the fact that you have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is further evidence of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea, when untreated, causes adult onset diabetes in many people.

Your second question is much tougher: what should I do without health insurance to get diagnosed and treated? But the answer is not hopeless. One thing to do would be to get a cheap home test to confirm you have Sleep Apnea. Then buy a second hand machine or get a donated machine and mask. Those are widely available on the internet, and the other members of this forum will surely point you in some useful directions.

Keep at this. Untreated, you are likely to develop disease beyond diabetes.... heart disease/stroke, etc. Get this taken care of. It might save your life.
You need to get a sleep study A.S.A.P. The reason you developed Diabetes might be sleep apnea, not to mention the extra pounds? Maybe the Day time sleepiness? Morning Headaches? OK now lets address the insurance if the Apnea caused the Diabetes than .............. that might be the cure so........bug the Doctor. He should know there's no point to treating the Diabetes without treating it's cause.
